<The creation of all>
With the creation of the Realms, some of the left over chaos magic sinks into the underpinnings of Winter. It naturally eases towards a neutral morality frame to begin with, but is soon coloured by the wild, unsettling dreams of Winter's citizens. The first hints of unbalancing emotional, magical and psychic fault lines will eventually cause Voidborn in a specific Wintery type, and which are still not quite understood.
The Starlight Queen, and the Enduring King created the first spark together of the Dreaming powers well known in Winter. These were at first entirely Wild magic healing, very unlike the warmer, softer type known to be strong parts of Spring Realm. Entirely the kind of mending for walking wounded that might take place on a duelling or besides a killing field, when so much of Faerie was very young and volatile. The very bones of Winter, are filled with this manner of wonderful, icy power.
Atlantis is founded as the first city of Winter, and grows large quite rapidly. It becomes very well known for its magical presence, elegance, and absolutely beautiful buildings. While initially ruled by a council of matriarchs, eventually Atlantis has its own Grand Archmaester, and then Prince as it spreads to the size of a province on its own.
Cradle of Dawn was founded by the first Queen of Dawn, Lucera as a place to study the healing arts and refine them for all of fae kind.
Shimmer City is eventually founded out of the various city growth and collection of different smaller villages. There are several origins for its name, among them being the glowing wisp lights and candles used to brighten the deepest of the night sky. It was not a grand place like Atlantis was with even its founding. Initially, Shimmer gained its start as a collection of manor homes and beautifully maintained snowy winter gardens and elegant tea houses, but eventually became the largest city in all of Winter, next to Atlantis. While true that Atlantis was the first true city of Winter, and slightly older, Shimmer became more well known for the number of nobles and political activity, while Atlantis was much more important for its location, trade, and especially magic learning.
King Helliphae, having contended with the very beginnings of Winter's existence with the other Monarchs takes time to choose his first Royal Court from the first noble families establishing themselves. Particularly, this begins with his Queen and Prince Consorts, and their families, regardless of whether they are born or wished into existence. The positions of Seneschal, Prime Matriarch, Wild Dreams Confessor, First and Second Adviser, and several others are immediately created. At this time in the history of the Fae in Winter, war is not yet a focus, but land is divided into provinces and districts, with a soft preference towards those smaller rulers being female or feminine.
King Helliphae primarily built the Midnight Palace out of ice with his powers, with aid from his first chosen Court, Queen Consort and Prince Consort. It was formed from magically carved frozen stone for its foundations and lower levels, and is fully insulated against the cold. The upper levels of the palace are entirely formed from black and silvery magically charged ice, which can be activated with spells to protect the Winter Monarch, their family, and inner circle of trusted nobles. It is meant to signify the endurance of winter, as well as its harsh but elegant beauty, protection, graceful strength, but most importantly the hopeful presence of dreaming.
The Great Library was founded by Cyleene, first queen of Autumn as scholars and those recording knowledge began to settle in the Fae realms.
Cyleene’s daughter Nema opened the Autumn university, welcoming all who wished to study and share knowledge across the realms.
In the Winter Realm, true mass scale violence had not yet occurred in its early formation, even considering the political ambitions of various families and factions. Most preferred to settle differences with magical displays highlighting the beauty of Winter and its harshness. However, the occasional minor duel, skirmish or disagreement among the Winter Faeries eventually called for some manner of attending to violence when individuals could not settle differences. The Matriarchs came together to create Wandering Tundra Arcanic Rangers working with Pathfinder Rogues skilled in the specific needs for the constant Wintery terrain. The earliest of these were typically second and third daughters of families with the focus especially upon traversing tall ice mountains and vast snowy spaces, but their numbers eventually broadened to include men, and a-gendered Fae also wanting to serve. Each district had its own independent squad whom answered to their Ranger-Captain, or otherwise the local ruler rather than a large ranging realm wide force.
After approximately two hundred thousand years, King Helliphae's Court Advisers note how well the the regional development of the Tundra Rangers and Pathfinders function. However, the infighting and ambitions of the various regional Ranger Captains and Lords start to cause more issues than the organisation is worth. As such, rather than disbanding them, his Queen Consort, Lady Aemillia and then Dreams Confessor, Lady Azaur, suggest offering Royal patronage to the entire grouping of units to make them a Realm wide organisation. It is not an army such as is common in the Summer Realm, but it does add to some sense of legal order. A new position on the council is created as the Lord Ranger of the Winter Realm as Court Adviser during this restructuring, and the seat is gained by a display of endurance and prowess, rather than political bickering. This takes about ten thousand years to complete, and gives at least one traditional Adviser position related to physical ability and knowledge, rather than noble prestige.
Zenefar, a Siren from a common lineage, completes the Proving after Helliphae decides to retire. He becomes the second King of the Winter Realm. He was known for expanding the Royal Ranger Commission, giving each region of Winter a Captain, and dividing Winter into Four Provinces, and 16 districts outside of the Capital City Shimmer, and its Proto-Mageocracy Sister City - Atlantis.
As the Great Library and the Autumn University gained prominence within the Court, it was decided that this seat of knowledge would become the beacon of the realm and the city was named the capital of the Autumn realm.
Meorise the Golden, a Phoenix of Light, built Dawn’s Grace around the Cradle of Dawn to support the healers there, and founded the Prism Academy high in the mountains.
Jaelyric, grandson of King Maris, succeeds at the Proving to become Winter's King, but similarly prefers the styling of Prince, and His Radiant Grace. He is one of Lady Azaur's known lovers, and while doesn't choose to have any offspring, Jael is known for his kind decisions to carving more houses and apartments in current city districts of Shimmer out of pure Ice to make space for more Faeries. He is also considered the source of the origin story of Jack Frost, much later made popular by human dreaming. In a major political alteration and attempt to return to Winter's Dreaming roots, Jaelyric shifts all of the Royal Advisors back to appointments only, and eases deepened further imbalance, even as he alienates and infuriates the most of the nobles of Shimmer.
Quildor the Clever and a team of tree singers undertake the work of building the Tree Paths within the Wildwood, training others to take on their work, the Pathfinders.
Once King Verali fades after a few million years of holding the Monarchy of Winter, it is Zaelric who succeeds in the Proving and becomes King. Zaelric is the first to truly propose a Frost Army to at least partly replace the Ancient Ranger System, and does so about halfway through his reign, even over the protests of half his Council and especially those from Atlantis who preferred to see more art, music and Dream magic as an investment. He is as well known for being spectacularly killed by the first known large version of Voidborn seen in Winter. An excellent King, though he was Monarch several millennia, Verali was deeply mourned for his clever wit, and sharp intellect. He was the last entirely moderate King who attempted to make peace between the two factions of nobles in Winter.
Azaur announced her arcane aligned ability of Dream Weaving, and travelled around to all the realms to heal the minds of anyone afflicted for nearly 3 million years. Many followed her, becoming her students, learning how to Dream Weave themselves, as a more easily learned approach to mind healing than the wild magic of the past.
Lady Azaur creates the Dreaming Temple, and with Royal Patronage, names herself Matriarch. In this space, the Dreaming Pools are opened and tended for the first time with Royal assistance. The number of Faerie healed by the space mentally and spiritual are beyond telling, and Lady Azaur's reputation as its head continues to flourish. Eventually, her students begin to refer to her as Priestess, eclipsing her previous position as Dreams Confessor on the Royal Council.
Despite Lady Azuar's protests, General Ananun helped establish the Nightmares with the help of some of the Priests and Priestesses of the Temple of Azaur. Effectively splitting the factions among the Priesthood, and draining the Dreaming Temple of much of its growth. He also set up a training facility on Shadow Mountain, and was named the First Commander of the Nightmares.
Oakheart is founded in the Wildwood as a place of trade and gathering by Haldavar the Bold, a former Captain of the Thorns and famous warrior from the first Void Wars.
Priest Ratundam relocated the caves in more recent Winter Realm history. They hold magical pools that help amplify a Dream Weavers abilities. While once commonly used by the first denizens of Winter with wild Dream magic healing, and the caves had no particular name in the past, so eventually became connected with Ratundam.
Titian, a Dioane, wins the Proving Trials and becomes the Queen of Spring.
After the previous King stepped down to spend more time with his family, Hiemel, supported greatly by the Progressives, goes through the proving and becomes King. It's not shortly after that tension between the Progressives and the Naturalists begins.
While not an actual war, the progressives and the nationalists were nearly at war several times because King Hiemal supported the continued mining underneath Atlantis which had begun millennia before his rule. King Hiemal had to negotiate the naturalists from attacking, or the progressives from defending, on several occations.
The war that began with Atlantis sinking, the blasted lands being created, and the Voidborn being let through into Winter.
Darina refuses to join the proving regardless of her being favored as Titian’s daughter. Imra wins the proving, a Unicorn and rules for the next thousand years.
The Barrier has held the Voidborn mostly at bay, outside of a few insurgent attacks here and there.
Tallis goes through the Proving and becomes King following the Great Sacrifice of the Four Monarchs of Faerie. He rules with largely a solemn grace and elegance, as the then-recent conflicts and the the holding steady of the Barrier give King Tallis much to rebuild in Winter.
Imra steps down to focus on trying for a family, in the Proving Trails a demifae, Shalia becomes the Spring Queen and rules for 824 years.
Vera, the former Queen of Autumn is killed by an insurgent force during an attempted coup. After defeating the attackers by using the Cauldron's power, Kieran is picked by the powers of the realm in an unusual ascension and assumes the throne.
After Tallis steps down as King of Winter, Ayden hears the stone calling to him in the healing pools of Ratundam, and goes through the Proving. He becomes King.
Bellicus is forced to step aside by the other rulers, announcing a Proving near the end of Autumn to choose his successor.
