Killgold

The Noble Killgold. The Lords of Rubies and the Protectors of the North. The Wardens of the Whiteroot Forest and the Stewards of the Red Stream. Titles abound when speaking of the Old Lords. Titles and tales galore. Though they're all of dubious authenticity, it is these stories that have built the legacy that underpins the respect held for them by the titans they serve in their capacity as Lords. No records of the name Killgold exist before Akmar Killgold signed his first contract with the old pirate consortium. The early members of the family themselves drew their origins back to the south coast of the Minia region. Based on this some have assumed that first known Killgold might've been a defector of an army or a criminal of some sort on the run from higher powers. Others look toward their darker skin and note titans of a darker complexion originate in the south of Oliviara as a consequence with intermingling with the people of the southern continent of Mara. Others say they are descended from a darker skinned tribe of the Whiteroot, as it is know that skin color varies in the mystical forest, and the family does seem to live in a state of enhanced harmony with the forest akin to the comfort we see with the tribes there today. Their origins however are irrelevant at this point as they are the quintessential Kimion noble family. With their children dutifully attending Ghoul Tech and every male member of the family eventually joining either the military or serving in the administration of the kingdom. They have married into every other noble family twice over at least and even the royals of this and other lands have married Killgold girls, to the families benefit obviously. What better way to establish a new trade route than a strategic marriage. That mentality is the Killgolds bread and butter for history and pedigree didn't build their city, those stones were bought with blood gold magic and sex. It's a business plan they swear by, and one they seem to show no inclination to stop.

Territories

All land north of the last tree of the Whiteroot is claimed by the family. Those exact words are chiseled into the constitution of their city and into the amendment to Kimion's constitution that made the Killgold dukes. Though on most maps only the property they directly own on the banks o f the river as well as the City of East Omeni are shown to be theirs.

Military

The Killgolds are the hereditary commanders of the Killgoldi Army and Navy.

Religion

The family has their roots in the native tribes of the Whiteroot Forest, and much like the other tribes of the enchanted woodland and the wider continent, they worship the Sacreds. Their city itself is dedicated to the King of the Oceans, though the Killgolds are said to fancy the worship of the King of the Forests.

Foreign Relations

The Killgold family is on solid diplomatic terms with all the families and Kingdoms of the land and though personal terms vary the family is generally well liked by all.

Agriculture & Industry

The Killgold Family business is the Goldwater Port. The responsibility of running the port is such hard work that it is often given to a member not expected to inherit the role as Head of the Family, as it is considered to much of a burden to administrate the port and be head and or heir of the family at the same time. They also mine and trade rubies from deep in the forest south of the city proper. The profits from this endeavor serve as the family's spending money of sorts while the much more lucrative port and the families less than legal dealings with the pirates and smugglers of the Bay of Rubies fund the city of East Omeni and the wants and needs of its people.

Education

Every member born of the family has attended the Ghoul Royal Technical Institute, since the school was constructed 200 years after the founding of the city of Alexandelios.

The Angelis are Kings. Of the Land And Of The Lords Of The Land.

These two families have long had a tense but friendly relationship stemming from the Angelis using the Goldwater as the hub for their shipping when they were merely Nobles of the land and the old City of Assa under the Royal Classi Dukes. Though the Royal Angelis have taken steps to keep the relationship purely business, a few Killgolds have been king and queen consort to a number of Angeli monarchs and the heads of both families today share a close personal relationship that blossomed a long time ago when they were but school boys.

Though the two families have fought several dozen times including some particularly serious events like The Fishermans War and the Folly of SIras II, they are now the two closest houses in the kingdom, a consequence of the relationship the two family heads developed while growing up in their families' respective homes in the whiteroot forest.

The Old Families' with least history and conversely the most marriages between them. The over a dozen marriages between both the main and offshoot branches of each family make up the only significant family ties between the houses. However a matter that mars this otherwise spotless interfamilial record is the fact that of the several linkings of the families, very few have produced adult hiers, with some more superstitious people choosing to assign tales of a curse to the sad phenomenon.

Bitter enemies stemming from the War for The Harbor, the war the families fought over part of the northeast coast the City of Aleri now occupies. Centuries later and after assassinations and intrigue have left many dead on each side, they enjoy a tenuous peace, one which gets shaken everytime one of their members die just a little too young.
