Vampire

A self-inflicted, sickening thirst.

Vampires are a product of dark ambition; a reminder that magic is an unknown above all else. Simply put, Vampires are not actually Mythics but Shifted that are under the curse of Vampirism. Worse yet, Vampirism is not a single curse but a "soup" of interconnected conditions that give the curse-bearers a wide range of supernatural abilities at a single cost; the cannibalistic consumption of human flesh and blood.   Vampirism was "created" at the Council of Red Moon Sea, the first meeting of what would eventually become the Vampire Council. On that fateful night, when the influence of a Deep Mythic caused the moon to turn bloon red in the skies over the Pacific Ocean, Esmerelda McKellen made the necessary preparations to inflict dozens of individually linked curses on the population of a single off-course ship. The reason? Each member of the crew was already under the effects of curses that forced them to consume the flesh of other humans to survive, and Esmerelda was the only qualified Witch who was willing to help them share in each other's misery. It is unknown exactly what combination of curses resulted in Vampirism, but the end result was clear: the crew left the shore as Altered humans, and returned to shore as Vampires.   With the benefits of an entire host of curses empowering their bodies, Vampires are one of the few magical creatures that exist outside of magic's normal Hierarchy. They are very nearly immortal, regenerate from injuries, shapeshift into animals at will, possess supernatural strength and agility, hide their presence by bending light, and many many more abilites that must be omitted for brevity— all at the cost of consuming human flesh and (unexpectedly) burning when exposed to the light of the sun. Of particular note is the ability of Vampires to spread their own Vampirism to a victim. This ability alone places Vampires in the Mythic rank, a full three ranks above normal curse victims.   This has led some magically inclined historians to theorize that Vampirism is not in fact the result of a curse, but the meddling of some entity much higher in the Hierarchy. But with the death of Esmerelda McKellen, the Vampires' true origins have been lost to time.

Vampires

Rank: Mythic
Type: Curse, Self-Propagating
Notes:
Really, it shouldn't be possible. Not a single curse in the history of our world has had the ability of self-propagation, let alone one that's cobbled together like this. It's as though magic itself is playing a trick on us.
