Pulau Cemara
Pulau Cemara is a dense tropical forest on the island of Lahat. It is considered sacred by the Tau Tanah and Tau Dilaut peoples, and is also known as a Wild Place - a realm where travelers may slip in and out of The Dream. According to legend, Pulau Cemara was created by Tan-Lahat, goddess of the island, as a testing ground for those brave enough to confront their inner selves. Within its depths, travelers encounter dream-versions of themselves, shaped both by their own beliefs and by the perceptions of others.
Although the Mekongga invaders have not seized control of the forest's interior, they have imposed strict limits on access. The Tau Tanah, who once lived freely along its borders, are now confined to a handful of Kosalo Villages set at metaphysically significant sites. Entry into Pulau Cemara is permitted only on prearranged occasions, under watchful eyes. Guard towers line the forest's edges, and those caught trespassing without sanction face severe punishment.
Notable Spirits
When the goddess created Pulau Cemara, she also brought forth guardians to protect it. These are the Kayu Tonong - towering ancient beings that resemble the forest's trees. Their forms are of thick, gnarled trunks with branches that stretch toward the heavens. Though they appear rooted in place, this is only half true: their roots sink deep into the earth, yet they can shift their location at will. None have ever witnessed a Kayu Tonong in motion, but they are always found precisely where they are needed, as if they had grown there for centuries.
The Kayu Tonong hold the power to bestow blessings or cast misfortune upon those who encounter them. Travelers who approach with reverence may be granted gifts - vitality renewed, clarity of thought, or protection from malevolent forces. But those who show disrespect, or who harm the forest, risk incurring the wrath of these guardians. Tales tell of offenders struck by illness, plagued with misfortune, or vanishing into the trees, never to be seen again.
Geography
Pulau Cemara is a lush tropical forest on the island of Lahat. It shelters a great diversity of life—monkeys, deer, wild pigs, and countless birds. Yet the creatures of this forest are unlike those found elsewhere. Some speak with human voices, while others wield strange gifts: the power to change shape, to vanish into shadow, or to command the elements themselves. One can never be sure if the animal is a natural beast - or a spirit from within The Dream.
Among the most renowned denizens are the Tagnihi - hive-dwelling fireflies whose dances reveal glimpses of the future. They dwell only in the forest's deepest heart, where the canopy is so thick the ground lies in perpetual twilight. Reading the patterns of their dance is an art that takes years to master, but once learned, their movements are said to foretell events with uncanny accuracy.
Equally cherished is the elusive Dilan Lark, a small songbird whose melodic calls echo through the trees. Its feathers shimmer with azure and emerald as it flits through shafts of sunlight. According to legend, the Dilan Lark carries messages between the Kayu Tonong and the Tau Tanah, bearing wishes and prayers upon its wings. To hear its song is considered a blessing, a sign of divine presence in the forest.
The flora of Pulau Cemara is as remarkable as its animals. The forest floor is carpeted by vibrant ferns, their patterns weaving a living tapestry. Orchids bloom in a multitude of colors, their ethereal beauty lending an otherworldly air to the undergrowth. Of particular note are the fragrant Ylang-Ylang blossoms, prized for their healing and rejuvenating essence. Yet the forest also holds dangers such as the twisting Lata Lamun vines, which coil around ancient trunks and are said to entangle those foolish enough to sleep within their reach.

The flora of this place enchants my mind the most.
Thanks! I'm planning to use this as a prompt-garden - I'll keep an eye out for prompts that can fit here, and expand the ecosystem as the ideas come.
