Lompiran Basin

"They hold the body of Lahat - but its heart still beats free."

In a hidden valley deep within the interior of Lahat lies the Lompira Tana, or Lompiran Basin. In the sacred geography of the Tau Tanah, no place is more holy or revered. It is also the only part of the island never conquered by the Mekongga during their invasion—shielded from them by the gods of the land. To many of the invaders, it became a place of myth, believed to exist only in The Dream. Within the Lompira Tana lives a community of free Tau Tanah, working in secret against the Kingdom of Lahat and striving for the expulsion of all Mekongga from the island.

To reach the Lompiran Basin, one must first follow the secret paths of the Pulau Cemara and receive safe passage from its guardians. Though the basin itself does not lie within the sacred forest, there is no other way to approach it - all other routes have been diverted, and any who attempt them find themselves wandering in endless circles, never nearing its borders. Beyond the forest, the path winds through a series of unmapped hills before finally descending along the only passage into the Lompira Tana.

The basin overflows with lush vegetation, growing wild yet offering only edible plants. According to Tau Tanah legend, it was created by Tan-Lahat, goddess of the island, as a sanctuary and a place of sustenance for her children. When the Mekongga invaded, Tan-Lahat gathered whom she could into the Lompira Tana and ensured the basin would provide for their every need. It is most often shrouded in mist, and once within, one feels severed from the outside world - it is easy to forget all troubles amid the fog and to live in ease and comfort there.

Beneath the basin, it is said, lie hidden grottoes and vast subterranean chambers where the gods of the Tau Tanah were born. These are the wombs of Tan-Lahat, the places where her children first emerged into the light. Kept sacrosanct by the Tau Tanah, these chambers are said to hold all the treasures preserved from the Mekongga invasion. To guard them, Tan-Lahat has set mystical creatures within the caves, ensuring that her sacred wombs and their treasures remain forever protected.

Notable Spirits

The Tana Lompira is the heart of all the island's gods. Born here in ages past, they may be bound to other places, yet each can still manifest within the caverns beneath the basin. These gods are collectively known as the Tan, and they are led by Tan-Lahat, who embodies the island itself.

During the Mekongga invasion, many of the Tan were bound by the invaders' magicians, and all found their powers diminished or constrained. The Folk Magic of the Mekongga - unique in both its reach and its rigid laws - was used to impose a new order upon the land, stripping the gods of Lahat of much of their strength. Even Tan-Lahat could not drive the Mekongga away, and so she wove them into The Dream of the island itself.

The fate of this balance remains uncertain. For now, the Tan linger in a state of flux, their influence weakened but not extinguished.

Geography

The exact location of the Lompiran Basin is uncertain - and it may be that it does not fully exist within the physical bounds of the island at all. Likewise, the basin has no fixed size or border; it expands or contracts as needed. However vast it becomes, it always manifests as a low-lying, mist-shrouded valley, nestled among hills with mountains beyond. Yet which hills, and which mountains, are never quite the same, and may be impossible to determine.

I like how one has to find this place, that need to be granted permission to enter, also that all other paths have been diverted. That part just really stuck with me.

It sounds like a beautiful place. I am glad only those who are granted permission can go there.
