Northern Rebellion
The Northern Rebellion was a conflict between Kingdom of Acaron and Northlanderrebels right after the Terror of Hytheron which eventually led to the formation of the Berov Republic.
The Conflict
Prelude
Northlander peasants had been disgruntled with Acaron Nobles for nearly one hundred years due to lack of representation and support from the main Kingdom. Workers saw their raw resources traded off in Endris for copper on the gold. Small rebellions had formed previously with no success and had been wiped out swiftly. During the Terror of Hytheron, the Kingdom had pulled quite a lot of their stationed guardsmen for extra support. Once word of the death of the Gray-Horn family had reached the Northlanders, revolts sparked all over the Northern Province and a rebellion had begun.
Deployment
The remaining stationed guardsmen were quickly overwhelmed by the rebels and killed or captured in a matter of days.
Still reeling with the aftermath of the Terror of Hytheron, Acaron was slow to react to the outbreak of revolution. Winter was quickly upon them and getting soldiers trained and ready to send out was not easy.
Acaron also hired many independent sellswords to bolster the ranks, both from Acaron and Kyros
Battlefield
The Northland Province had been wild and untamed since Acaron had first colonised it, and it had mostly remained so. Massive forests and rough terrain made large scale army travel almost impossible.
Conditions
Initial fighting was brutal with Acaron striking swiftly, but this momentium quickly died out and in a matter of weeks Acaron was stopped in it's tracks.
Rebels used the environment and weather conditions to their advantage and cut off supplies to the enemy leaving many stranded without food or medical supplies.
Many sellswords turned on one another, either by accident mistaking others for the enemy, or on purpose seeking to raid their comrades for a quick coin. Upon hearing that Acaron was unable to continue to pay for their services many sellswords returned home, and some even joined with the enemy.
Aftermath
The loss of raw resources from up north left Acaron suffering financially for some time. Many tradesmen lost their lively hood and some even turned to banditry.
Due to the pitiful actions of the hired sellswords, recently crowned King William Gray-Horn enacted the Bloody Coin Act, which made being a mercenary in Acaron illegal unless they joined with the Bloody Coin.
A weakened and embarrassed Acaron allowed the noble families to grow in power and reputation after the perceived failure of King Gray-Horn. After the conflict Dukes had far more autonomy.
