Lord Darius Vexmoor

Lord Steward of Leilon and the Leilon Marches | Heir of House Vexmoor

“Steel in the spine. Velvet on the sleeve.” —Darius Vexmoor

Overview

Darius Vexmoor carries the weight of a name both hallowed and tarnished. Once of Neverwinter’s nobility, he now governs Fort Leilon with the same deliberate poise he once reserved for palace courts. His words are measured, his gaze calculating, and his legacy in peril.

Tragedy has marked his household: his wife, Calistra, drowned under circumstances whispered about but never proven. She refused resurrection, entrusting her soul to Selûne’s afterlife, leaving Darius bereft. Soon after, his daughter Vaerra fell victim to a creeping shadow curse that threatened to consume her entirely, severing her from both the Prime and the moonlit afterlife.

In desperation, Darius turned to the only power within reach: feystones, mined from Leilon’s depths. With rituals tied to an ancient pact between House Vexmoor and the Seelie Court of the Silver Night, he was able to halt Vaerra’s transformation—but at terrible cost. The feystones promised to the Fey for the hatching of the Duke of Moonlight were diverted. Vaerra lived, but the Duke died unborn, and House Vexmoor’s honor shattered with the lie of a “stolen shipment.”

Now, Darius treads a knife’s edge: rebuilding his House from disgrace, safeguarding the mines that keep his daughter alive, and holding Fort Leilon steady beneath him.

Role in Leilon

  • Serves as Governor of Fort Leilon, appointed by decree of Neverwinter.
  • Balances civic duty with the quiet desperation of a father preserving his child.
  • Oversees the mining and trade of feystones, both blessing and curse of his House.
  • Acts as political mediator between Neverwinter, the council of Leilon, and unseen Fey watchers still tallying the old debt.

Personality

  • Polished, Ambitious, Heavy-Burdened
  • Speaks as though every word is weighed on a scale—never too much, never too little.
  • Believes legacy is survival: that perception and memory matter more than comfort.
  • Not above compromise, but never forgets who bent first.
  • Haunted by the choices that saved his daughter and doomed his House.

Political Position

  • Determined to stabilize Fort Leilon as proof that House Vexmoor still carries weight.
  • Views feystones as both sacred and pragmatic: a resource for the Fort, and a lifeline for Vaerra.
  • Keeps a wary alliance with Neverwinter, knowing their patience for a disgraced house is thin.
  • Regards the Fey with equal parts reverence and resentment; their bargain both sustains and damns him.
