Level 2
Krūs jah blēwaz himin, gastiz bundans
Level 2 is a frigid level characterized by glacial plains, frozen forests, and scattered mountain ranges. Tundra and taiga. The landscape is mostly covered in snow and ice, with average temperatures well below freezing. The sky is a sort of dome of soft blue light, entirely sunless, providing uniform illumination without a visible source. The environment is less immediately hazardous than deeper levels but remains inhospitable without proper shelter and clothing.
Human settlements are more numerous here than on Level 1. Most are small, self-sustaining villages constructed from timber, stone, and ice. Heating is achieved through the burning of coal, which plentiful presence in the rocks have made coal mines a staple of every settlement. Trade between villages is limited and generally localized, as overland travel is slow and dangerous due to weather exposure, thin ice shelves, and wildlife.
Inhabitants include demons (usually of Ignavari or Irarioni origin), beastfolk, and long-term human residents. Despite the harsh climate, Level 2 is considered stable and livable by the standards of the Hells. It serves as a long-term residence for souls seeking isolation or structured community life alike.
