Orentesh
The Orentesh are a diverse group of people who mainly live along the eastern side of Telgren, mostly in the Orentelar region, with control stretching as far as the Pamalon river. Inland, they dwell up to the end of the highland steppe, with population dropping greatly where it drops off to the lowland steppe, home to centaurs. Cross border raiding in common in this region, which produces fierce warriors as a result. The Orentesh are an extremely diverse group of people, as the Orentelar region has long been a melting point for a variety of different cultures. From the Taytaman to the long defunct Casyranden culture which settled the far west of Orentelar during the Oleandron Period and even possibly traces of the mythical Forest People who once inhabited Telgren's northeast in folklore, the Orentesh have many roots. Considered Qabali, the forefathers of the Orentesh were proto-Taltas from Ærellion, and were the first to make this journey; long before their fellows. It has been proposed that the Orentesh are also mixed with an even earlier group of people which were the orginal inhabitants of both sides of the strait Telgren and Ærellion. Unlike the Baxstir, fellow Qabali who arrived much later and did not integrate with the locals, the Orentesh embraced traditions from various sources. With all of cultures of the region blending with the original Orentesh in varying amounts, the Orentesh have a number of subcultures and tribes (called Bolyans by the Orentesh) which can be extremely confusing to outsiders. This organization is extremely similar to the Enctör because the Enctör are descended from a group of Orentesh tribes with a strong native Telgrener background which were forced to flee their homeland centuries ago. Besides the divergent Enctör cultures which no longer can be considered Orentesh, there are 7 subcultures which can be observed. Kchatlyn, Doikorán, Arcesen, Ayseregy, Vintalyan, Sevsevy, and Deinepri peoples can all be found in the various Orentesh nations, most of which have much more than one cultural minority in their nations.
The Kchatlyn people live further west than the other Orentesh, occupying the western highlands and overlooking the Plaires Centralis. They are considered by most to be the least warlike of the Orentesh. The largest of the Kchatlyn settlements are melting pots with a number of different races and cultures. In contrast, one would be hard pressed to find outsiders in the countryside, which is mainly populated by descendants of the Casyranden, especially in the west, and their original Orentesh conquerors. The Kchatlyn largely built on a base of existing fortifications before expanding across the entirety of highlands, as this was one of the few regions of the Plaires Centralis to retain their human culture after the Khanate of Clesentia destroyed the human settlements. They therefore have a rich cultural history whihc the other Orentesh cannot claim.
Further northeast, but also bordering the Plaires Centralis, Kchatlyn settlement is replaced by the Doikorán tribes. The Doikorán are some of the most powerful Orentesh, as the ruling Bolyans of Doikorás. A fierce and warlike people, their border with the Plaires is not as safe as that of the Kchatlyn, and they have long grappled with centaurs for control of the region. Recent events have kept the centaur threat down, but should they attempt to invade the Orentesh region the Doikorán stand ready to oppose them. The Doikorán people, due to their long division into warring tribes and lack of exposure to outside ideas, are the least conventionally civilized of the Orentesh. This has made the rising power of the Doikorán difficult to sustain, as their subjects have yet to truly respect them and their people are constantly teetering on the edge of infighting.
To the north of the Doikorán, the harsh terrain swifty becomes lightly populated. As the mountains and highlands fade back into valleys, the Deinepri can be found. Mostly populating the regions immediately surrounding the Deineprio river, which is their main cultural centerpiece, the Deinepri are more isolationist than the other cultures, preferring to stay in their valley. They are, however, close allies with the Valrang dwarves, and often work together to combat trolls.
South of the Doikorán dwell the Sevsevy, who are broken into several groups. The nation of Ko'ldarzern (a Doikorás subject) is almost entirely populated by Sevsevy, and this population bleeds slightly into Doikorás proper. A significant amount of Sevsevy are also present in the Telrai nation of Autuavao, which has incorporated several Sevsevy Bolyans, particularly in the south. The Sevsevy have been described by other Orentesh as strange, which they claim is because of their Forest People ancestry. As evidence of the forest people living withing their domain has been found, this may very well be true. During the rule of the Baxstir, the proto-Sevsevy were largely assimilated into the Baxstir, and were consequentially killed in large numbers during the fall of the Baxstir, keeping their population lower and preventing them from establishing centralized states.
Sitting to the west of the Sevsevy and east of the Doikorán are the Ayseregy, who mainly populate Agrenraysereg. Agrenraysereg was the preeminent Orentesh power until their recent defeat by the Doikorán, so there are Ayseregy-majority regions fairly far into Doikorán territory which once served as administrative and tributary centers. Their loss of land has left these settlements of Ayseregy in a strange position, as they have become entrenched in their communities and acted as intermediaries between the leading Agrenraysereg Bolyans and the Doikorán, but are likely to soon be replaced by Doikorán, which may upset the balance in these enclaves.
Along the coastline, the Arcesen are the most prominent population. With their main settlement, Porti Skedőtője, having changed hands many times, the Arcesen have largely been kept systemically disarmed, their Bolyans subordinated and weak. Even within Telrai lands, which they do populate, they have slowly been edged out by settlements, as Telrai prefer the coastline. Divided between so many nations, it would be difficult for the Arcesen to establish their own state.
Finally, along the border with Taytama, the Vintalyan people mark the easternmost vanguard of the Orentesh. The nation of Vettüregan contains the vast majority of Vintalyan people, but there is a sizeable minority along the Pamalon river. At one point, the Vintalyan controlled a sizeable part of the modern nation of Siuattua, but were defeated by the Taytamans, who aligned with Gnomes by promising land (which later became Simafsland). This period, however, lead the Vintalyan people to have a large degree of Taytaman heritage, and so their relations had steadily improved as the Vintalyan became intermediaries between Tayaman and Orentesh nations. However, with the rise of Aentsha Pashaxea, the Vintalyan have been marginalized on the Taytman side of the border.
Due to having a vast amount of different ancestors, there is no "typical" Orentesh. Most Orentesh do have brown hair, but the more eastern Orentesh often have blonde hair, and northerners, especially the Sevsevy, have a sizeable minority of red-haired populace. Orentesh tend to have darker skin closer to the center of their ethnic group, with lighter skin around the edges. They typically have brown eyes, but the blondes usually have blue eyes, while the red-haired Orentesh invariably have green eyes.
