Baxstir

The Baxstir is an ethnic group which eastern Telgren during the years of the Oleandron Empire. They are a mixture of multiple ethnic groups which failed to stand the test of time as their policies failed. A tribal people, the Baxstir leadership caste seems to have originated on northwest Ærellion and were some of the last Ærellionic peoples to settle on Telgren. With much of the land already taken by other groups, the Baxstir settled in the lands once populated by the Forest People and formed tribes in the region. Here, sources differ, some claiming that the Baxstir conquered and destroyed the forest people, and others claiming that they were already gone by this time. As the Baxstir were already present when the elves of Oleandron arrived in the region, they were unable to figure this out. Those of the latter opinion claim that the forest people had already been subsumed by Orentesh and Taytaman tribes, as well as Valėirdišin migrating south, which accounts for some of their supposed genetic traits being present in the former two groups. Detractors claim that these traits would have still been present due to intermingling of groups.
One thing both sides in the debate agree is that the Baxstir utterly annihalated the Valėirdišin settlers, while mostly taking the Taytamans as slaves and trying to assimilated the Orentesh who they viewed as lost cousins. This explains why the modern Valėirdišin don't display any traits prominent among the Forest People. Nonethless, the ethnic policies of the Baxstir were seemingly in place until the 800s, when they were destroyed by Taytamans, who were rapidly modernizing and united against the common threat. The region once dominated by the Baxstir would then come to have its northern half controlled by the Taytamans while the southern part was repopulated by Orentesh. The Baxstir were pushed out and only the small populations present on some out the outlying islands survived. However, these would by mostly overtaken by Telrai settlers as they explored east, leaving their population very small and their hopes of retaking the mainland small to none.
