Mauronian

The Mauronians are an insular ethnic group residing on the island of Mauþu in the Þaru Isles, although there are many Mauronians living in bondage among the rest of the Isles as well as throughout Northern Telgren. They are a popular target of raids by the Voðeren, as their disorganized government and weak kingdom historically failed to defend its coast.
Mauronians are historically a lazy and idle people group, who rarely interacted with the outside world and frequently raided one another to steal their goods and therefore not have to work. Over time, they were almost entirely conquered by Voðeren and the Telrai, accelerating in recent years. This pushed the Mauronians to unify from their last stronghold in eastern Mauþu, but this kingdom was also lazy and hedonistic, and fell during the Time of Troubles. The Mauronian culture was heavily altered by an elf known as Pomponius the Man, who overthrew their kingdom and enforced a new religion and way of life. After this, the Mauronians became cannibalistic and much more warlike, deterring some slave raids. However, it also meant that their neighbors see the Mauronians as a savage and uncivilized people only fit to be destroyed. Before Pomponius the Man became their ruler, they held a great distrust of magic, believing that all magic besides runic magic was evil, a belief still held by those Mauronians not under the sway of his successors.
The Mauronians are a fairly unified people group, though differences exist. Within Maurcigon itself, which is split by low mountains, the people on each side have some cultural differences stemming from diet and slight climatic differences, but these have largely been erased by the unitarism pushed by Pomponius. Those outside the nation, mostly slaves, do not display the changes brought by Pomponius, as they have no connecton to him.
