Kingdom of Widuþia
Widuþia was a Giriþiudan state which existed in the region of Fjalla, south of traditionally Giriþiudan lands. Arising in the Widuþia 940s after pushing the Kingdom of Sunþiruda out of Fjalla, Widuþia lasted for several centuries, but never managed to truly dominate the region, suffering from disorganization and a series of revolts. Widuþia, though outlasting Sunþiruda by a few decades, could never truly asset itself and was destroyed before the year 1100.
History
The region of Fjalla, under Sunþiruda since the 800s SC, had become sparsely defended and therefore an attractie target for attacks from the north. Sunþirudan rulers trusted the woods of the region to provide a buffer which would allow them time to rally their forces and reinforce. This weakness stood out to the twin brothers Almadic and Almaric, and in 944, the two brothers invaded Fjalla with an army of 40,000 Giriþiudans. Their forces were shortly joined by several rebellious nobles and their enterouges, raising the number to over 50,000s. The Sunþirudans, unable to effectively respond, lost all the defensive terrain of the woodlands, leaving them on the back foot. The Sunþirudan ruler, Theobrand, met this army in battle, attacking into the hills and being routed by the brothers. Pressing their advantage, they marched on Mililbaurg, capital of Sunþiruda, but failed to take the fortified capital. Theobrand, however, was killed, and left the kingdom to his brother Theomand IV. Theomand was a significantly more prepared ruler, and devised a sneaky plan to dissolve the bonds of brotherhood between Almadic and Almaric. Theomand promised he would give his daughter's hand in marriage and a kingdom to whichever brother was the leader of the horder, knowing the two were equal and thus the horde had no single leader. Almadic and Almaric, both greedy for kingship, each proclaimed they were the leader, which was disputed. This forced a division in the invading armies, and the two groups started fighting. Almadic's loyalists proclaimed it was his right as he was the firstborn twin. Meanwhile, Almaric's loyalists claimed that he had the better military record and a more kingly name. The two groups began skirmishing, and before they knew it the two were engaged in warfare.
Perhaps unsurprisingly due to his better skills as a military leader, Almaric would seize the upper hand. Chasing his brother all across Fjalla, he was however unable to meet him in a pitched battle, with Almadic performing well in evading capture. However, this style of fighting led to a slow attrition of his forces, many of whom snuck away to seek opportunities for a victory with other armies. Finally, Almadic would manage to secure and fortify the great valley of Valerier, and his brother was either unable or unwilling to follow him there, returning to secure his prize from Theomand. He would be crowned as Almaric I of Widuþia in 947, triumphantly marrying into the royal family of Sunþiruda. His new kingdom would take the halfling and elven-majority lands, excluding Valerier of course.
