Fjallan

The Fjallan halflings are a population of halflings primarily residing in the Fjallrock cliffs, hence their name. Originally mirants to the region during the Empire of Oleandron, halflings proliferated throughout the western lands of Oleandron, seetling along hills, valleys, cities, and- critically, the cliffs. With Oleandron becoming unsafe and highly dangerous as it collapsed, many of these halflings retreated to the cliffs, eventually declaring their independence in 784. The United Provinces of Fjallrock, as the new state was known as, didn't last long and dissolved into its constituent parts in 793, shortly after its creation. The 3 provinces each went their own ways, though they hold no ill will towards each other. They tapped into the maritime trade of the region, fighting against Triton pirates for the most part, and keeping strong connections with the Hold of Bhur Drizl, a major trade partner for all three nations. In recent years, this seafaring has taken a turn towards more open-ocean techniques, taking advantage of Telrai advances in the area. They hope to find new lands to settle, due to the overcrowding beginning the show itself on the highly populated and peaceful coastline.
Besides the major center of population in the cliffs, there are also Fjallan Halflings in the states of Bhur Drizl, Isileum, Evenswon, Gafutuo, and Valerier. Those in Gafutuo are recent migrants, invited by the Telrai rulers in order to hopefully dilute the power of the Erleting-majority provinces. The populatation is generally split into four groups: Fjanten, Isileng, Ciofordo, and Coiladen. The Fjanten are those who live along the cliffs themselves, bleeding into Evenswon somewhat. These are also the group whose population has been migrating to Gafutuo. On the other hand, the Isileng are the halfling population of Isileum. A minority throughout the city, they have long been integrated into the city's population and workforce, and see themselves as Isileum's citizens first and halflings second. Still, they retain close ties with the rest of the Fjallan community. A tad further south, in the nation of Bhur Drizl, the halflings are mostly Ciofordo. They've lived and worked in the abovegroud vineyards since before the collapse of Oleandron and coexisted below ground with the Dwarves since not long after. Although not granted full representative rights, they are considered able by the dwarves of the state and not discriminated against. Unlike in Isileum, the Ciofordo do make up a majority in parts of Bhur Drizl, primarily on the surface. Lastly, the furthest western population of halflings in the world resides in Valerier. Closely tied to the Telrai and Elven administrators of the region, they are spread throughout the nation, though concentrated in the south. The Coiladen are the most adept sailors of the four groups, and many of them have settled in or worked among the other groups of Fjallan. Most prospective explorers, even though they are primarily hired by the Fjanten, are of Coiladen blood.
