Healing Concord Committee Member

Healing Concord Committee Members are the officials entitled to vote and speak at the Concord Committee.
The Concord Committee has grown in membership and the range of its composition over the period of more than three thousand years since the Healing Concord first began as a relatively modest organisation and it now consists of one hundred and twenty individuals, chosen for office by a variety of means.
In the illustration at the head of the article, Concord Committee Member Rony Homn, reports back to Ralsimoor on the first troubling encounter with Dragonspiders in the northern jungles of Punjuki in the early years of the Age of Shadows.

Appointment

The elected committee members are representatives of the active practitioners of the Healing Concord and have the majority of places on the Concord Committee, eighty in all. The elected members are themselves divided into two groups. Firstly, a regional group of forty members, associated with cities and geographic areas on all three human continents and with representation scaled roughly by population. Then secondly, a technical specialities group, with another forty members voted for within the specific medical traditions followed by the Healing Concord.
Completing the committee membership are three more classes of direct appointments. The five major hospitals have two representatives, and a further ten institutions are permitted one each. This means that twenty committee members are closely tied to the day to day administration of the busiest health centres. Another ten members come from the research wing of the Healing Concord, whilst the final ten are in the gift of the Concord Speaker. These are usually honorary appointments but may contain special agents of various kinds.

Responsibilities

Healing Concord Committee members are not responsible for the routine organisation of health services which is overseen by a relatively flat layer of local bureaucrats, who have a great deal of autonomy. Instead they concern themselves with policy matters at the ten yearly meetings of the Concord Committee. They elect the Concord Speaker from amongst their own members and they set the priorities for the organisation, through a number of sub committees, which can meet more frequently, but whose decisions must be ratified at the full Concord Committee meeting.
