Geralt of Rivia

Knight (by Meve of Rivia) Geralt of Rivia (a.k.a. White Wolf, Gwynbleidd (Elder Speech: White Wolf), White One, Butcher of Blaviken, Ravix of Fourhorn)

Geralt of Rivia was a legendary witcher of the School of the Wolf active throughout the 13th century. He loved the sorceress Yennefer, considered the love of his life despite their tumultuous relationship, and became Ciri's adoptive father.   During the Trial of the Grasses, Geralt exhibited unusual tolerance for the mutagens that grant witchers their abilities. Accordingly, Geralt was subjected to further experimental mutagens which rendered his hair white and may have given him greater speed, strength, and stamina than his fellow witchers.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Defeated Imlerith, Caranthir and Eredin in one-on-one fights
  • Beat Gaunter O'Dimm at his own game

  • Slew numerous dangerous monsters
  • Proved himself worthy enough to wield Aerondight... twice.

Failures & Embarrassments

  • Failed to stop Renfri from being killed
  • Failed to save Vesemir
  • Was "killed" by a peasant boy wielding a pitchfork in the Rivian pogrom
  • Manipulated by Triss for two years after he lost his memory

Mental Trauma

Unsure whether this is trauma or just being a Witcher, but Geralt is less expressive of his emotions than many people. He does show a strong moral compass and cares deeply for his friends, so it is more likely that he is simply emotionally introverted.   Geralt mentions frequently having nightmares in The Witcher 3.

Intellectual Characteristics

Due to his long lifespan, worldly exposure and diverse friends, Geralt knows tidbits of information about many different trades and people. His area of expertise as a witcher is where most of his knowledge is concentrated. Geralt shows a sharp wit and a keen problem-solving attitude, allowing him to figure out the easiest, least harmful way out of a situation that most others miss (like negotiating with trolls to enter their territory harmlessly instead of needlessly killing them).

Morality & Philosophy

"Evil is Evil. Lesser. Greater. Middling. Makes no difference. The degree is arbitrary, the definition's blurred. If I'm to choose between one evil and another... I'd rather not choose at all."

Taboos

Taking contracts on dragons and humans. Killing when a path without bloodshed is available.
