The two moons

Gehe zur deutschen Version: Die zwei Monde

Vardra – The Silent Vigil

Vardra is the larger and more prominent of the two moons. With her pale silver glow and calm, steady orbit, she embodies order and consistency for the Frostborn. Her cycle of exactly 69 days forms the foundation for the weekly structure of the Frostborn calendar.   Vardra also has a stabilizing effect on the climate: during her full phase, sudden weather changes are less frequent, and many regions experience calmer, more predictable conditions. This has earned her the title “The Silent Vigil.” Numerous rituals and celebrations are timed to her full appearance—not out of superstition, but because daily life becomes easier to plan around her presence.   She is seen as a symbol of tradition, protection, and balance, and is deeply woven into the cultural identity of the Frostborn.

Lyrr – The Whisperer

In contrast to Vardra, Lyrr is small, shimmering blue, and often barely visible—sometimes appearing only as a faint veil in the sky. His orbit is roughly 31 days, but it is irregular, making him harder to predict.   When Lyrr draws closer to the planet, the Frostborn frequently report strange unrest: animals behave differently, human moods waver more easily, sleep becomes shallower, and dreams grow more vivid. The weather, too, becomes more capricious—sudden storms, unexpected cold snaps, or unusually clear nights become more common.   Lyrr is therefore associated with change, instability, and instinct—not negatively, but unpredictably. It is often said that major turning points in history have coincided with notable appearances of Lyrr.
