The members of the council
Members of the Warrior Faction
Fjallrik Lyrrswacht
Role: Speaker of the Warrior Faction · Ice Patriarch (Supreme Commander of the Rune Warriors)Character: calm, strategic, authoritative but not domineering Background: Fjallrik earned his name on a Lyrr-bright night, when several ice creatures attacked a recruit camp. Before the first shield was raised, he stood against the creatures and shouted with such clarity and force that the camp was alerted and a massacre was prevented. Since then, he has been seen not only as a proven strategist but as a symbol of early action and clear leadership. His position as Ice Patriarch grants him both military influence and symbolic weight within the council. As speaker of the warrior faction, he rarely speaks—but when he does, the council usually follows his lead. ---
Svarna Stormhide
Role: Member of the Warrior FactionCharacter: direct, loyal, unwavering, inspiring Background: Despite her young age, Svarna quickly earned respect among the rune warriors through her uncompromising honesty and high discipline. She is considered reliable, demanding—especially of herself—and enjoys great trust within the ranks. She received her name in an unusual way: during a ceremonial arm-wrestling match on the training grounds, a heavy storm rolled in. But Svarna refused to abandon the duel—for her, there was only victory or defeat, never surrender. The contest ended properly, in the midst of the howling wind, with Svarna’s loss—and later, her marriage to her opponent, Iskir Svarnaconqueror. ---
Tharn Stands-Again
Role: Member of the Warrior FactionCharacter: stubborn, tough, humorous, battle-hardened Background: Tharn is one of the longest-serving rune warriors of his time. He once bore the name Tharn the Reckless—a nod to his wild, demanding nature in youth. After countless battles against ice creatures, he is physically scarred but mentally unbroken. Though long entitled to retirement, Tharn refuses to step down. The rune warriors elected him out of respect for his experience—and likely to keep him from charging into battle again. He earned the name Stands-Again because he always got back on his feet quickly after injury—whether with bandage, splint, or crutch. When asked why he didn’t rest longer, he simply replied: “I couldn’t stand the bed. It was too warm.”
Members of the Mage Faction
Brylla Redeye
Role: Speaker of the Mage Faction · Head of the Hall of HugrhalCharacter: analytical, patient, cross-disciplinary brilliance Background: Brylla is renowned for her vast expertise, extending far beyond classical magic. She combines rune lore with alchemy, artifact theory with plant magic—and always takes time to consider all perspectives. She earned the name Redeye not for her iris color—her irises are gray-blue—but for her perpetually reddened, deep-set eyes: the result of endless hours under the dim blue-vein glow of the study halls. She sleeps little, researches much—and listens patiently. When she finally speaks, her analysis is clear and her conclusions well-founded. The council decides—but her assessments often set the course. ---
Iskaldra Dimples
Role: Member of the Mage FactionCharacter: kind, intelligent, instructive, connecting Background: Iskaldra hails from the Hall of Knowledge, Galdarskrift, and is known there not only as a scholar but as a teacher in the truest sense: patient, clear, and attentive. When not in council, she teaches history at a school in Skipti—her classes are beloved, not just for the knowledge, but for how she shares it. She earned the name Dimples from a physical trait—deep, prominent dimples in her cheeks that give her a gentle appearance even in serious debate. But behind the smile lies a sharp mind and unwavering commitment to education—for mages and non-mages alike, regardless of status or origin. She was elected to the council because she has long supported Brylla Redeye, knows her work, complements it—and questions it. The vote was nearly a formality—even if she remains in Brylla’s shadow and is rarely noticed. ---
Marnil the Rune-reader
Role: Member of the Mage FactionCharacter: dutiful, rule-bound, scholarly, with quiet irony Background: Marnil is one of the oldest active mages and a fixture among the rune magi. He earned the name Rune-reader early on, when as a novice he corrected a master’s interpretation of an ancient engraving. Since then, his eyes have been considered sharper than many a spell. Marnil is a staunch advocate of magical order: rituals, rules, and formulas are not just tools to him, but safeguards against human or magical excess. Yet he is no rigid dogmatist—behind his formal speech, a dry wit occasionally flashes, catching his listeners off guard. In the council, he is often the voice of caution when it comes to old obligations or past exceptions.
Members of the Civic Faction
Helkon Broadshoulder
Role: Council Leader · Representative of the Civic FactionCharacter: grounded, charismatic, pragmatic, open to counsel Background: Helkon hails from Föndir, that city between chaos and coast, where order often begins only where someone creates it. As a bone grinder, he spent decades working the massive remains of sea giants—a task requiring strength, patience, and a keen eye. He is no scholar in the classical sense, but his earthy wisdom, life experience, and clear speech have made him one of the most beloved Frostborn over the years. Whether mage, warrior, or merchant—everyone listens to him, and his simple questions have been known to silence even Brylla or Marnil. As council leader, Helkon conducts ceremonies with visible joy, proclaims laws, and welcomes guests with a broad grin and steady voice. He gladly seeks advice and weighs opinions—not out of doubt, but because he’s learned that not everything must be ground alone. His name Broadshoulder is not just symbolic—he carries burdens, both literal and figurative. ---
Jorik the Grim
Role: Member of the Civic FactionCharacter: terse, proud, skeptical of theory, deeply loyal Background: Jorik comes from a remote homestead on the open plain before Virkin, the warrior city, and still lives there—with his ice wolves. He breeds and trains them with quiet consistency and knows their ways better than those of most people. His farm is sparse, functional, and prepared for anything the frost may bring. He earned the name the Grim not for open hostility, but because his curt, gruff manner leaves little room for small talk. In council, he rarely speaks—when he does, it’s usually with a sentence that lands. He has little patience for “mage babble” or “puffed-up warrior talk,” as he calls it—but he has a strong sense of justice and firm views on what is owed to the people. Many council members know: if Jorik nods with a grumble, you’ve said something right. And if he grins—it’s about to get dangerous. ---
Larna Wavebride
Role: Speaker of the Civic FactionCharacter: loud, charismatic, hands-on, impulsive Background: Born in Vintergard, shaped by waves and wind, Larna was long the captain of her own ship—the Wavebride. She hunted sea giants, traded, and brought back tales of storm fronts and sea monsters to her home harbors. Today, the ship belongs to her son Arik Waverider, but Larna rarely sits still. After an accident at sea, she lost hearing in her right ear—the left does its best. Since then, she speaks loudly—which only adds to her already explosive presence. She’s a doer through and through, preferring action over deliberation. She joined the council as the people’s voice—and quickly became their loudspeaker. Her name Wavebride became a title, her voice a surge: sometimes roaring, sometimes clarifying, never ignored. In Föndir, where she moved for its open manner of speech, she knows nearly every door by name—in other cities, at least every third.
