The Ice Field – The Silent, Frozen Expanse of Nyrian
The ice plain of Nyrian stretches seemingly endlessly, a cold, untouched expanse that at first glance appears calm and uniform. But upon closer inspection, one realizes that the ice is not entirely homogeneous. There are traces of an ancient dynamism—hints that the land once looked different. Over millennia, the ice has continuously expanded, engulfing old coastlines and merging former fault zones. Yet the past has not completely vanished—fine, elongated structures run through the surface, some barely visible, others clearly recognizable.
The Fault Lines and Ancient Coastlines
The plain is crisscrossed by gentle, long ravines and channels, shaped by ancient processes. Some of these structures are remnants of former coastlines—places where the sea ended countless years ago before the ice advanced further in its direction. Other areas may have formed through massive natural events—deeper lines where the ice was once torn along a natural fault before the cold fused it back together. Although the ice has sealed itself once more, the trace of this ancient wound remains visible: deep valleys, narrow indentations that stretch through the landscape like frozen riverbeds. These fault lines do not run randomly. They are never aligned at a 90-degree angle to the pole but always parallel to the coast, following the natural movement of the ice as it expanded over time.
