Battleship – Upperdeck

Gehe zur deutschen Version: Grosskampfschiff - Oberdeck

Upper Deck – Technical Description

The upper deck forms the highest accessible level of the ship and serves primarily for navigation, weapon operation, and general deck work. It extends along the entire length of the ship’s hull and is divided into several functional areas.
At the bow lies the bow weapons deck. This area includes the forward artillery and their operating stations. The weapons are mounted on reinforced bone structures and have lateral mobility to cover the forward firing arc. A munitions lift connects the bow weapons deck with the storage levels below.
Amidships lies the main deck with the yard sails. The sails are attached to mast structures made of compressed bone plates and stabilized sinew strands. Operation is carried out through a system of pull‑ropes and tensioning mechanisms. This area also serves as a working platform for the deck crew, who adjust sail position, stabilize the ship, and perform course corrections.
On both sides of the main deck are the stairways that connect the upper deck with the levels below. They allow quick access to the weapons decks, the command deck, and the lower decks.
In the central area lies the command deck. It includes the steering position, navigation instruments, and the ship’s communication devices. From here, the course is set, speed is regulated, and coordination of the deck sections is overseen. The command deck is slightly elevated to ensure clear visibility over both bow and stern.
At the stern is the stern weapons deck. This area is equipped with additional artillery covering the rear firing angle. The weapons are mounted on reinforced bone frames and have their own operating crews. Here as well, a munitions lift connects the deck with the storage areas below.
The upper deck is structured so that navigation, sail operation, and weapon deployment can be efficiently coordinated. It forms the operational control center of the ship and enables oversight of all essential functions during travel and in combat.
