Healing ⟮Branch⟯
Healing is a branch of blue magic. Casters of this branch are normally capable of also accessing its sibling branches, conjuring and imbuing, and are unable to access any magic from green magic or red magic. In some rare cases, highly advanced casters who have mastered this branch may be able to access its higher magic counterpart, sampling. Like all branches of blue magic and its higher magic counterpart, white magic, this branch's suffix indicates it is part of a related group of magic. As is the case with all branches of magic, healing magic is divided into three main abilities, each divided into three tiers, all of which are listed below.
Healing Abilities
Inanimate Repair
Main article: Inanimate Repair
Through the process of very simple state reversal, a caster may repair damage to an inanimate object. It is important to note that this ability can not repair something that was never broken. If a vase was made in a misshapen or incomplete form, it can not be corrected if it was never in the state that the caster deemed to be correct. Casters who wish to repair may do so differently depending on their level of skill with this ability.
Access to the lowest tier of this ability will allow the caster to reverse damage on soft objects, provided that all of the original matter is still available.
Intermediate casting of this ability allows the user to repair hard objects if the damaged matter is present, and soft materials, using externally sourced matter of the same kind.
Advanced casters are able to repair inanimate metal objects with its original matter, hard objects using externally sourced matter, and soft objects, using inexpensive, conjured matter, provided the caster is capable of producing such matter with other branches of magic.
Using magically charged materials may allow the caster to produce better effects, using less magic, especially in the case of repairing an object without any provided matter similar to that of the object being repaired. The right material spell components may even allow casters to repair metal objects without providing any similar matter.
A lesser accepted application for this ability is to reverse the process of shaping or refining. Magic has no opinions on what repair truly is, and as those with language used a word to describe this ability and its branch, the result is that many have forgotten that it simply works on the principle of reversal, meaning that a shaped and hardened vase may be reverted to a simple mound of clay.
Organic Repair
Main article: Organic Repair
Contrary to popular belief, even organic repair will not create something from nothing, nor will it bring matter from other planes. Similarly to its counterpart, inanimate repair, it acts mainly upon the principle of reversal.
Basic use of this ability allows a caster to reverse damage to a wound, which is most easily done by using the original organic matter, however, if the organic matter it not present, it is possible to reposition existing organic matter to mend the damaged area my means of grafting and stretching.
Intermediate use of this ability allows a caster to regrow limbs. If the original organic material is not available, appropriate nutrients and plenty of water can be provided to aid in a very slow process which will eventually reform a lost limb. It is important to note, however, that you can not regrow something that never existed. A person born with one arm will not be able to grow a second arm using this ability.
As magic is without judgement, it has no qualms with using other organic material as nutrients when required. A dead body is much more useful for providing material to regrow a limb than its equivalent mass in plant matter.
Advanced use of this ability allows a caster to repair mental damage. This requires both the caster and the target of the spell to agree upon what this repair consists of, so while it requires consent, unlike previous uses of this branch, it does still require the mental state to have existed. This can mean erasing stress, traumatic memories, or sympoms of alzheimer's, but it will not work on the root of a neurological disorder due to its cause having existed in the initial developement of the brain.
Similarly, many afflictions are very different from one another, and often require different types of magic to cure.
Revival
Main article: Revival
Basic use of this ability allows a caster to pull a recently departed soul back to its original body, provided the damage that caused death is reversed. If the soul has already passed on to the afterlife, a caster may call them back temporarily to speak with them, provided they have part of the body of the deceased.
Intermediate use allows the retrieval of a soul even after it has passed to the afterlife, provided that remains are available.
Advanced use of this ability allows a caster to call back a soul that they are familiar with and construct a brand new body, provided the original body and its DNA have been destroyed, and the revival occurs on the same plane as its death.
It is important to note that in each of these cases, the soul must be willing to return for the spell to work, but the magical energy is only spent if the spell succeeds.Magic Classification
