Luciden

Home of the Eternal Maelstrom

Luciden is a city of brightly decorated stone built alongside steep sloped cliffs that grew out from a central bay of persistently swirling emerald water which seemed to flow in a clockwise manner. A number of freshwater rivers feed into the city from above and are guided by tremendous aquifers and channels through the city and down into the bay, some streams used as water sources while others are used to power waterwheel mechanisms to transport people and resources up or down the city's steep inclines. Surrounding Luciden on low hills are numerous large plots of farmland which utilize the freshwater streams as part of their irrigation systems as well.
Luciden is a small city founded on the southern coasts of the south-eastern isle of Euri'dor. While a significant port in its own right, it's picturesque image makes it a significant draw to tourists. Many members of upper nobility own summer homes in or near Luciden for prolonged stays if needed.

Demographics

Large Human, Elven, and Dragonborn populations but attracts a wide number of other races

Government

Luciden is operated by a republic elected by registered tax-paying citizens. Other citizens may petition to run for the next coming election through popular vote and for specific offices.

Defences

A large set of water gates around its bay manned by heavily fortified defensive turrets, heavy iron walls embedded into the land above intended to funnel attackers into dangerous positions, and a strong naval presence

Industry & Trade

In addition to the tourism industry (inns and taverns, restaurants, etc), Luciden also produces raw agricultural products and hosts and maintains a significant portion of the Legion Marred Armada and other trading company ships. Luciden is often a stop along southern trade routes between Kalom-kalom and Lock.

Infrastructure

Luciden makes significant use of its numerous sources of water as both water and energy sources. Waterwheels often follow along large aquifers for use in large elevator and gondola lifts or as sources of power for mills and factories. Due to it's steep inclines, water drains are built under most walkways to prevent stagnation.

Architecture

Complimenting the swooping channels and picturesque coasts, the structures of Luciden are relatively plain in form, favoring clean angles and flattened roofs made of wood coated in clay and lightened plaster. Much of the extraneous decoration comes from porcelain tiles, usually tinted deep blue to sea green embedded in a structure's walls.
