Heprath Woods

Heprath Woods

Engulfing the land north of Weren the thick dense Heprath woods fills the landscape with its towering coniferous trees. Along the borders with Weren the forest has been cleared over the years as the city expanded. The one mile of open ground rule of northern cities has become increasingly hard to maintain in such a verdant growing expanse as this woodland. As such the trees and undergrowth, while pruned down as much as possible, still come right up to the walls on most sides.   A well used track/road meanders through the forest to where it ends just short of Goden's Pass some 200 miles away.   Animals are abundant once one heads deeper into the woodlands. Several hunting lodges have been hidden in the secluded groves leading to a wealth of income for trackers, guides and personal guards. The woods are also inhabited in some of the deeper places by less friendly sentient life and as such people with any intelligence show there respect if they choose to go off the beaten tracks.   Interesting ruins can be found spread throughout the woodlands, most are the remains of elven villages that were destroyed in some manner or were abandoned when most elves moved into the northlands. Occasionally a explorer will come across stone foundations or a piece of wall but most ruins here can be found by looking up into the trees before looking down into the earth.   The old elven city of Luendai, while picked clean is still a favourite place for those with adventure in the blood. It is located not to far north of Weren. Interesting because it was completely grown, not built, hence the reason it still stands.
