Celotene

Celotene has seen great changes being implemented after being taken over by Thaddeus Mercator as Supreme Regent. The academies now act as mere advisors to the Regent, no longer voting on issues amongst themselves. Thaddeus has also seen the value of a unified currency, copying the coinage from the local dwarves and implementing it nationwide. Lastly, Thaddeus has broken the diplomatic isolation Celotene deliberately hid behind, sending ambassadors to every foreign power, big and small, in the vicinity. It is clear Mercator wants sudden and great change to occure in Celotene, though it is a mystery where this sudden preoccupation has come from. Nevertheless, it seems to be a positive influence on us, since raids from Recondite mages have completely stopped since and Mercator vows to help Vercantians with their greenskin issues. I welcome this change of heart, no matter how strange it may seem.

History

The great nation of Celotene has always been secretive and mysterious to outsiders and it has deliberately been thus ever since it was founded by the Mercator's Myrmidons, a group of mercenaries led by a cabal of powerful mages. It is said they had found the key to immortality and based their operation in the lifeless realm between old Agrahzar and Vercantio. In the following centuries, they managed to bring some life to the continent, but it became ever shrouded in a dark fog and eternal night. This changed in the First Year of the Third Awakening, after a freak accident in the Grand Lecture Hall of the Academia Magica overloaded the main Aeternalith crystal of the city, destroying the lecture hall and killing most of the ruling council in the process. For the first time in centuries, sunlight shone on Celotene that day and the small nation took a step towards a brighter future.    The only surviving member of the ruling council revealed himself to be Thaddeus Mercator, distraught yet determined to put things right, declaring himself Regent Supreme, to rule Celotene until a new council could be formed, yet no such new council has appeared ever since.    Thaddeus has reformed Celotene as a whole, restructuring the former magoligarchy into a more feudal state, with the aim of growing the population and expanding his realm's borders. This he accomplished in the years after the Aeternalith Disaster, ordering new settlements to be built all over Celotene. More people are needed to eventually bolster the ranks of his Legion,  his myrmidons as they were previously called. He has noticed the catastrophies unfurling all around the world and he seeks to put a stop to it.
