Personal history
Jarrod grew with a small family, with a nervous mother who was scared to let him go down the street. He had a small amount of cousins that lived on the other side of the country. But when he did meet them they always seemed so cool. They knew new slang words, their clothes were always different but fresh and they easily made people want to hang around them. He wanted that, so whenever his cousins went back home he tried to be just like them.
He started showing up to school with whatever was the newest fashion, or whatever he saw celebrities wearing on television. If there was a new dance he tried to master it, if there was a sudden social shift he tried to ride the wave. He tried any sport any popular kid would play, and would try to merge himself into the cool kids friend groups. No matter how hard he tried people always felt he was disingenuous. Like he was just putting on a show for no one but himself. The fact was he just had no charisma, and he just wanted to be liked.
Eventually he had gone a little too far, and was viciously called out for all his many attempts to be popular. A lot of people agreed with that fact, and his argument didn't swing many people to his side. He was branded a non-factor, and was laughed out of the school. After all he did to try to get people to like him, and to be rebuked so publicly by so many gave him a mini breakdown. The thought of him not mattering, of being of no consequence made him feel practically invisible, like he just bled into the walls in the background. The next morning he woke up on his bed, and he was invisible but his body bounced like he had springs attached to him. He turned invisible next to a brick wall and he hit like one to too. He used his new ability to beat the hell out of everyone who laughed at him. He was never caught, and some did suspect him, but he just reminded them that he was non-factor.
