He has burn marks on both sides of his eye sockets.

He wears blind glasses like a mask.

Darren was a very creative kid, and he gladly attributes that to his older sister. His parents both worked nightshift so it meant it was just them most of the time. His sister was very close to the original nerd stereotype. Short, big glasses and a huge interest in the fantastical. When they were at home alone she would read him her favorite fantasy books, watch the best sci-fi shows and play the greatest rpg video games. It helped Darren become more of an unorthodox thinker.

While visiting his cousin, Darren and his best friend were waiting in another room. His cousin was working on a new type of laser that could help cure blindness, and he wanted Darren to see it. While his cousin was setting up, the pair were in the middle of a conversation when his friend pulls out an old gun. His friend had found it at home and thought it'd be cool to show him. Darren was so nervous he didn't hear his cousin tell them he was going to aim the laser at the glass in front of them so they could what it would do. The glass mimicked a blind eye, so it'd display how it would help blind envision the world. While the laser is firing up, Darren convinces his friend to put the gun away and he does. While swinging it back towards his backpack it goes off, directly hitting the laser. The bullet caused it to malfunction and it supercharged, Darren barely was able to turn his head sideways before the laser went through both of his eyes.

Luckily he was able to have a successful eye transplant, and things took a while getting back to normal. Besides the scars on his face he was pretty much ok. A few months after his eyes had fully healed, he started having headaches. Whenever he thought something, anything, his mind rattled like a washing machine. One day it got so bad, it felt like his skull was going to crack open, bright lights erupted out of his eyes as a cracked skull appeared in front of him. His headache suddenly stopped, he looked around to see where this glowing skull made of light came from. He thought "thats funny" and Jerry Seinfeld appeared, doing his sarcastic "huh". It took three weeks of his thoughts materializing before he realized he had legit powers and he wasn't just crazy. When he told his sister, she suggested being a hero or at least pretend to be one. He started with very smalltime stuff and eventually became the established hero that he is today.
