The Dragonborn Emperor
The Dragborn Emperor was the most prevalent story told about the Scaled Tyrant to give legitimacy to their unique capabilities and right to rule.
The Story
It is said that in the central mountains of Menkerot there was a dragon of blackest scales. A rare species that had been undiscovered. It found a roost within a deep cave and there laid a single, obsidian egg which it tended to for 100 days and 100 nights until it hatched.
It was not a dragon that emerged from the egg, but a thing like a dragon, but in the guise of a person. Two legs, two arms, no wings. It looked very much like any of the Keroti in the region. There was one noticeable difference, however. This child was covered in black scales and had the slitted eyes of a dragon.
In those mountains the child was reared by the dragon and taught the secret language of dragons. When she child was old enough, they headed down the mountain to discover the world around them. They found a people wanting. A people who were mired in decadence. A people lost.
Many did not think much of the odd person who had come down from the mountains. Some even taunted them for the scales upon their body. Those who taunted them soon found dragons descending upon them to tear the people apart.
The stranger than made their way through the land, exploring and gaining popularity for their ability to seemingly control dragons at will. Their natural charisma garnered them fame, but also fear, for again and again they proved to be a particularly spiteful person.
When they were slighted by the leader of a small town, a great dragon was summoned and tore through the town killing all within.
They accrued power, they gained followers. In time they set their eyes upon the throne and took that. It was not, enough. The Dragonborn Emperor as they called themselves sought ever more and thus began the War of Dragons.
Criticism
There is much criticism to be made about the story. Beyond simply the absurdity that a dragon could lay an egg from which a person like a human or elf would emerge is unheard of in any folk tale or myth.
Additionally, the idea that there was a dragon that possessed the intelligence equivalent to a person has never been confirmed. The idea that they had a secret draconic language only added to the disbelief around the subject.
There is also arguments on whether the Scaled Tyrant even had scales. Many who had been in their presence agree that they did and others say it was not true at all. There are none left who remember interacting with them to verify much more about their physical appearance.
It is of note, however, that two things are agreed upon from the story:
- The Dragonborn Emperor did come out of nowhere as an adult with no other knowledge as to their origin.
- They did possess a strange ability to control and speak to dragons to force them to their will.
