Wellington On The Water

The place where the rich and famous move to when they retire. This borough is built for and catered to the wealthy celebrity elite who have already had their fill of the fast-paced and glamorous life of the entertainment industry. A big, gorgeous artificial lake has been constructed for the aesthetic and is part of what gives the borough its name. Mansions line the avenues; a lively downtown area features many restaurants and businesses with elaborate and expensive outer facades.   Cultural ideas/tenets: Class, refinement, and luxury are the tenets the people of this borough espouse. It is common for practitioners to have more than one magical focus on their person at a time, as many find the flows of magic are more receptive when numerous foci can be activated at once. Individuals possessing magical aptitude are often bedecked in many such luxurious trinkets.   Founding Inspirations/Documents: Old magazines and films depicting images of the old world cities of Beverly Hills, California and West Palm Beach, Florida heavily inspired the buildings and rich aesthetic of this borough.

Guilds and Factions

The Social Club
The Social Club is a prestigious country club established for the retired elite to have some form of socialization. They meet weekly for games, parties, and sometimes for participation in community outreach events. The Social Club is often a benefactor and sponsor for various community events in the city, both within and beyond Octant Aphrodite. They strive to cultivate an image of nobility, respectability, and high class living in all of their gatherings and activities.   Second Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
Bored rich people can sometimes take an interest in strange things. Trace scriptures and occult writings salvaged from a minor Ark many years ago held documents on the old magickal traditions of Thelema and the Golden Dawn. While much of the spiritual and philosophical context has been lost to time, a small number of wealthy eccentrics have regular meetings to conduct magick rituals aimed at pursuing spiritual growth, filling in the blanks with contemporary thought and interpretations in order to find some form of meaning and purpose all their own. These practitioners, save for their eccentric leader, are not magically gifted the way the more well-known Hermetic Order are. Actual mages would scoff at Golden Dawn practices and rituals, but this semi-secretive order is dedicated to their pursuits of spiritual enlightenment--they know their rituals don’t do the physical, observable magic of the sort true mages cast like energy blasts or conjuring fire; the Golden Dawn’s magic rituals are designed to affect the practitioners on a spiritual and metaphysical level, aiding in their path to achieve enlightenment and self-mastery. They may not be manipulating elements or controlling minds, but they are definitely affecting their own path through their unique craft. There are various rumors about the Dawn’s parties and gatherings tending to be hedonistic in nature while claiming to have spiritual purpose; such gossip, true or not, doesn’t help their reputation among the otherwise normal members of society. The Golden Dawn’s leader, an aging elf named Alphonse Kenneth Norwood, is a retired actor, occultist, and amateur philosopher (or so his autobiography states).

History

As Olympia grew and grew, the demand for residential areas increased. And as Aphrodite developed into the high society center it is today, more and more aging elites and celebrities were looking for a place to build homes where they can live comfortably in a quieter area than a high-rise penthouse in the crammed city areas. Architects were inspired to replicate the mansions of old California and Florida based on recovered photographs and documents. If Beverly Hills was where the celebrities of the old world lived, then it shall be reborn in Olympia for the celebrities and elite of today. And so, Wellington On The Water was built.
