Dr. Carl Tubohn is a historian and archeologist whose key academic goal (some have said, ‘obsession’) is creating a complete history of the world, pre-Horrors. He is a younger man, in his early thirties, who has just recently earned his doctorate. Considered by many to be a genius, a lunatic, or both, Dr. Tubohn passionately pursues information about the Old World, both as Ark Running himself, or sponsoring expeditions. He can usually get funding from the University, but he has been known to fund them himself with family money when he can get permission from the University, but not money.

General Physical Condition
Carl is a very attractive man with a light complexion and dark hair that he tends to wear pulled back in a ponytail when he’s working or loose behind his ears. He meticulously trims his beard and moustache, and always tries to dress sharply, except when he is in his lab or the field. He’s on the shorter side, around 5’6”, but keeps himself in surprisingly great shape for someone who’s supposed to be a pure academic. Finally, he wears glasses that always seem to actuate his hazel eyes, and is nearly blind without them.
His attractiveness is a topic of hot discussion at Apollo university - as far as anyone knows, he has never shown much interest in dating (at least, not at the University.) Students, fellow faculty, and even a few board members and major donors to the University have all tried to either flirt with him, or set him up on a date, and he has politely rebuffed them all. Rumors of all sorts fly about him, and his nickname on campus has become, “Dr. Too-bad.”

He is passionate about the Old World, and loves to train students on the best methods for Ark Running. He’s not a slouch with a rifle, but he leaves the more martial aspects of the practice to others, and tends to focus mostly on ‘artifact preservation,’ ‘safe handling of Old World storage media,’ ‘accessing Old World secured areas.’ His students jokingly call him ‘Indiana’ or ‘Dr. Jones,’ due to his passionate belief that any and all LOStech or Old World information should be stored and studied at the University or preserved in museums.

Dr. Tubohn is friendly and pleasant, but very clearly a nerd for his areas of study. He’s truly passionate about history - he began his studies at the University originally focusing on the history of Olympia, but the mystery that has always surrounded the ear of the horrors, and especially pre-Horrors, fascinated him to the point of becoming an obsession. While not completely socially oblivious, it can take very little effort (unintentionally or not) to steer him into speaking about his passion.
While proud of his doctorate, he usually asks people to just call him Carl. The only times he reverts to ‘Dr. Toobin’ are either when he’s teaching, or working within the University’s labyrinthine political or bureaucratic landscape to accomplish a task or secure funding.

Wealth & Financial state
Carl seems to have access to a trust fund that contains far more than one would expect from a college professor. The fact that there are no wealthy families in Olympia named ‘Tubohn’ lead people to suspect that this is either not his real last name, he’s an illegitimate member some prominent family is trying to hide, he’s a secret criminal fencing Old World Artifacts and LOStech…the speculation is endless.
