Ring Mimic
The ring mimic is a rare subspecies of mimic that takes the shape of a small ring. Unlike their larger brethren who attack as soon as the opportunity presents itself the ring mimic is more methodical. Instead when slipped on the ring mimic begins slowly secreting a numbing agent that removed enough feeling in the victim's finger that they no longer notice the ring but not enough to raise suspicion. By the second or third day assuming the ring hasn't been removed the ring will be permanently attached unless removed by a ring cutter powered by Soul-Steam. After the first week passes the ring begins to break down the skin and muscle beneath it slowly eating through the cartilage at the joint until the finger slips off and the ring mimic pulls the finger into a hiding spot to consume it over the next few weeks. Then the mimic climbs to a well traversed area and hides again awaiting the next unfortunate traveler.
Like most other mimics their appearance varies from mimic to mimic but generally they appear as golden rings with some variants appearing like silver or platinum. Some have also been found appearing to have gemstones but this has been closely linked to older ring mimics. When split using a ring cutter and the mimic dies, their true form is revealed, generally they have a scaly dark brown or red skin with eight eyes in each cardinal direction.
Historically ring mimics have been used on death row inmates in the Nines Republic (And the former Mained Empire). Where the ring mimic would be slipped on the inmates finger and when the mimic ate through the finger they would be brought to their execution. Rarely the mimic would fail to remove the finger, depending on the crime the Warden of the prison would make the choice to release them or give them a replacement ring.
