Massive Floating Islands

These Floating Islands are exceptionally massive, often taking up larger bodies up with them, like mountains, chunks of forests, or ancient ruins. They are also far more stable than other islands, lasting long enough for proper erosion to take place and not just falling and rising from the ground over and over again. While other islands tend to consist of a singular rock type, like igneous or sedimentary, these massive islands take up a mix of rock masses with it.

They leave behind massive holes in the ground which have been historically used as mining sites, however some bits of rock are known to fall from the island making mining dangerous.

Some Islands are well preserved and carry small traces of The Great Engine with them. These ruins may lie on the surface of the island but often traces of the ancients are found in the underside of the island, hidden underneath eras worth of earth.

These islands are known to have abnormal concentrations of Soul Crystals than other areas. Many scholars suspect that these massive islands are in locations where there was a greater ancient population, turning into crystal after the fall of the Great Engine.

Most of these floating landmasses are above areas with ancient riverbeds or near previous coastal areas, these zones closely coincide where modern settlements are built.
