Huntsman Dragon

Huntsman Dragons are native to the Hunter's Crown mountain range. The mountains earning their name from the dragons which are known to hunt far from their nests but every night they return. Despite the fact that hunting is a cornerstone of their existence they are more social than other dragons tending to have larger nesting ground rather than the solo families that other dragons may have.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Huntsman dragons are among the largest on Noviderra, there legs are some of the longest and their wingspan stretches to about 35 feet. They have a small spiked ridge along their back believed to be used by them to fly more easily through the high winds of the deep mountains.

Biological Traits

This species is known for the hunt and have claws more similar to hooks to allow for easier transportation of large game back to their nests. They also grow muscle faster which gives them an advantage both for long distance flight and for carrying.

Genetics and Reproduction

Because the Huntsman are more communal than other dragons they tend to have larger immediate families having between 3 and 4 eggs per pair of mates. Their greater communities consisting of a larger group of dragons hosting up to about 50 individuals.

Ecology and Habitats

They live in very cold biomes with high altitudes, which is why they live in the Hunter's Crown and rarely settle in regions beyond. They prefer this biome for the sollitude and there is not much competition for the caverns that they usually call home

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Huntsman goes out in groups, before splitting up when they find a suitable hunting ground, there hunting grounds will vary depending on the community, generally ranging from 8 to 10 miles. With a greater region outside the hunting ground that they will move locations to over the course of the year.

Biological Cycle

Unlike other reptiles, the Huntsman and other dragons are warmblooded so they have no need to brumate in the winter, however if the summer is hot enough they may brumate then as the heat is too much for them and would rather opt into sleep.

Behaviour

Noted for being playful around young dragons and some young creatures, willing to share the creatures caught with others of the same species, noted to avoid sentient life and will defend their nests to the death.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

They take on darker colors ranging between blacks and light greys with some taking on brown coloration.
