Barony of Gorgonwood

Region Information:

Location Information:

-Barony of Gorgonwood is under the rule of the Kingdom of Valminster and the Crown of King Deneck the Fifth, aka Deneck the Imperturbable. It is governed by Baron Fenthick and Baroness Rina Stalder out of the coastal Capitol of Minton .

-There are two additional major cities in this region, Cheesegift & Lindham .

-There are four large villages in the region, Bridgewater (a farming & port village along the Tiones River), Enix Village (at the edge of the Glowing Swamp), Darkhall (the home of The Grey Lord, a powerful arcane spellcaster), and Dusksteps (A major vineyards community)

-Three major rivers run through this region which all converge in the appropriately named trading hub of Three Waters .

-One major military installment is stationed here at Green Stone Keep. There is also rumors of an abandoned keep (The Ruins of Deror ) deep in northern Gorgonwood.

-There are smaller villages that are not on the current map.

Geographical Information:

-The region takes its name from the famed Gorgonwood Forest , an old grown forest that is said to house many secrets and even a cult (or two).

-The three major rivers are The Tiones (Which runs east past Bridgewater and Lindham into Three Waters), The Chedderus (which runs southwest from Lake Briewyld to Cheesegift) which splits into The Southswiss (running south then west to north again past Dark Hall & Dusksteps) and the Chedderus then continues west from Cheesegift into Three Waters. Those rivers all join at Three Waters to create The Bygrove (which goes south from Three Waters past Green Stone Keep to Minton) which dumps into the Sea of Eight Gems .

-The Glowing Swamp is south of Enix Village and North of Milton, and is full of mysteries and myths, especially around those of the mysterious The Frogmother .

-To the southeast are the Clay Rolls , rolling mineral rich foothills to the Black Tooth Peaks , high snow swept mountains which seperate the Barony from the southern County of Segressa . The only way to pass through the Black Tooth Peaks without climbing them is the Green Mountain Canyon , which passes through Florian's Castle high in the mountains.

Social information

-The region is a melting pot of races and customs, mostly because Minton is the first port that other regions trade with when they are sailing down the Sea of Eight Gems.

-It does lean toward higher numbers of humans, elves, and half-races, but there is a significant diversity in races. With a majority of inland import and export coming through this region it tends to have higher racial tolerance overall, but that doesn't mean there isn't issues in each region and who is the downtrodden and ostracized changes from city to city.

There are several guilds/factions within the region, each with it's own function/goal.

  • Stewards of the Fearless is the adventuring guild that also acts as the local miltia for many of the villages and takes contracts from all -levels.
  • The Union is the Craftsman guild in the region and they control all trade AND travel on all of the rivers in Gorgonwood.
  • The Mage Guild is the collective of mages within the region.
  • The Faithful run the Temples of the Divines and care for the spiritual health of the populace.
  • The Crown Keys are a council of the richest and most powerful beings in the region, and they also make up some but not all of the ruling class.
  • The House of Claws is a notorious criminal organization operating in the region dabbling in everything from petty crime to assassinations of members of the Barony royal family.
  • The Many is rumored to not be organized, just a bunch of beggers, orphans, vagabonds and tramps that cause trouble from now and then. But strangely enough, there always seems to be a rumor about The Voice of the Many.
