History

The Guild was started by an adventuring party nearly 300 years ago, when the Kingdom of Valminster was under great duress and nearing civil war. The monarch on the throne, the Vile King Lecantius III was a tyrantical king, who regularly beheaded, burned, or drew and quartered anyone who disagreed with him, from servants to nobleman to heirs to foreign dignitaries.

This small group of adventures, the Stewards of the Fearless, consisting of a wizard, a barbarian, a rogue, a paladin of the Wilderbeast, and a mule named Maurice; ended up leading the revolution that usurped the king and defeated his armies. They put on the throne in his place the king's only living child (he'd killed the rest of them) his daughter who had joined the resistance when she realized what was really being done to her people.

For their service to the crown and the kingdoms subjects, The Stewards were offered knighthood and land, and they didn't take it, instead, they requested that they be allowed the settle and start an adventuring guild wherever they wished in the Kingdom. The new Queen agreed and they settled on Cheesegift, a small village by Lake Briewyld. Shortly after the guild was established and just before the Great Hall in Cheesegift was built, the wizard of the party passed away from wounds sustained in the battle against the tyrant king. Apparently he'd been dying since the battle but kept it from his companions so that they could celebrate without mourning him. A crypt was built under the main guildhall, where he was put to rest, and as the years passed, so were his fellow adventures as they aged out, even Maurice. Only one member of the party is still alive, an elder high elf Paladin who hasn't been seen in a few months after a trek to the Gorgonwood. This isn't a cause for concern yet, as he often goes on pilgrimages to the woods to pay honor to the magical creatures that live there and reflect on his thoughts. He isn't the acting guildmaster anymore, so his absence is not a hinderance to the guild.

In the last 300 years, the Stewards of the Fearless has grown from a small guild to a huge company, with smaller guildhouses all over the Emerald Coast, and a network of connections that go even beyond, spanning almost the whole continent of Alorna. And since Cheesegift is the main base, it's primary export is trained adventurers and essential adventuring gear (in addition to region cheeses). There is an adventurer's college there now, along with a merchant's guild and college for aspiring shopkeeps and traveling merchants. Often there are teams from the two colleges sent out to do deliveries and get real world experience before they are graduated. Once graduated, Stewards take an oath to protect the guild, the people and then the kingdom, and it is always instill that the people are what matter, because there will not always be a crown, but there will always be a peasant.

"Bona administratio divina est" meaning "Good Stewardship is Divine"

Stewards of the Fearless is the adventuring guild that also acts as the local miltia for many of the villages and takes contracts from all -levels.
