Serendale
Serendale is a proud republic acclaimed across the Thierry Free States for its democratic institutions, its intellectual rigor, and its relentless pursuit of civic reform. Situated on the southwestern edge of the Free States, the republic gazes northward across the brilliant blue expanse of the Altian Ocean, while to the south the darker, mist-shrouded waters of the Ichor Ocean churn in quiet menace. Between these two seas, Serendale rises like a beacon—calm, cultured, and fiercely dedicated to the betterment of its people.
Geography & Origins
Serendale’s foundations are unlike any other city-state in Nyria. Long ago, a swarm of meteors hammered the coastline, leaving behind three vast concave craters that eventually softened, filled with life, and rose as islands. Today those islands—Serendale, Outdale, and Highdale—form the triad of the republic. Each island is connected by monumental stone-and-steel bridges that arc across the water in a mathematically perfect isosceles triangle, a symbol of balance, reason, and unity.
Serendale Island
The largest, most populous, and most urban of the three gives the republic its name. At its heart lies a lake of deep cerulean water, and in its centre floats an ancient marble temple. Once dedicated to forgotten meteor gods, it has been carefully restored and transformed into the Serendale Assembly—the beating heart of Serendale’s democracy. Around it rise districts filled with repurposed theaters, stoas, and temple complexes, now turned into academies, lecture halls, debate forums, and civic offices. Knowledge is not merely taught here—it is performed.
Outdale
The smallest and wildest of the islands, Outdale remains an undisturbed cradle of ancient forests, tended with near-spiritual care. The island’s most recognizable landmark is the ancient cliff-temple that hangs dramatically over the crater’s edge. Illuminated by lantern festivals and depicted in state iconography, it stands as the symbol of the republic, representing harmony between past and present, nature and intellect, tradition and reform.
Highdale
To the east rises Highdale, the republic’s agricultural heart. Fertile terraces sweep down the crater walls in ribbons of green and gold. Orchards thrive in mineral-rich soil, and ingenious irrigation channels—designed by Serendale’s most brilliant engineers—ensure year-round harvests. Highdale feeds the republic, its quiet productivity balancing the scholarly bustle of its sister islands.
Archipelago
Apart from the main three islands, Serendale has several fishing, logging and mining villages scattered across an archipelago of about 16 small islands.
People & Culture
Serendale is a republic built on civic duty, public debate, and the belief that education is the greatest equalizer. Its people are known for their directness in political discourse, their obsession with libraries, and their tendency to treat philosophical arguments as a casual afternoon pastime. Though proud, they carry themselves with a serene confidence—less combative than the industrialists of Leadenward, more grounded than the cosmopolitan nobles of Lilianth.
Public theaters host not only plays but policy debates. Streets are lined with stone lecture podiums. Children learn rhetoric before they learn arithmetic.
Economy
Despite modest natural resources, Serendale prospers. Its exports are not raw materials but ideas—literature, treatises, philosophical manuscripts, technical diagrams, and engineered tools designed for everyday life. Fishing fleets and Highdale’s farms ensure food stability, while academic tourism brings scholars from across Nyria.
Most renowned of all is the Free Alchemists Corporation, a guild fiercely committed to the democratization of alchemy. Instead of hoarding secrets for war or profit, they specialize in alchemical conveniences: smokeless lamps, healing tonics, pest-resistant crops, biodegradable inks, and the occasional eccentric experiment intended to “improve the quality of life,” sometimes with mixed results. Their laboratories attract idealists, innovators, and the occasional eccentric visionary.
Government & Democracy
Serendale’s government operates on a participatory democratic model that blends ancient tradition with modern pragmatism. Each island elects representatives who assemble in the lake-temple’s grand chamber—a luminous hall of colonnades, water mirrors, and crystalline meteor shards. Debates often run until dawn, accompanied by floating lanterns drifting across the lake like patient spectators.
This House of Representatives is one of the most admired democratic institutions in the Free States, credited with reforms in education, welfare, and civic infrastructure across Nyria.

Okay, can I please live here? On Outdale, to be specific. It is such a contrast to Leadenward. I copied a whole part of it as inspiration for items I should write about ‘soon’, if that is okay?
of course go right ahead!
