Season 1, EP 4: Wave Echo Cave
The adventurers focused their full attention on Wave Echo Cave. They spent a full day meticulously investigating the ancient, legendary forge. Within its depths, they encountered Mormesk, a Wraith who, far from being an enemy, was a lost soul permanently chained by the cave’s potent magic. Mormesk, eager for release, became a surprising, albeit cryptic, ally.
He spoke to Thane of his true nature, revealing that his shadow powers were rooted in the Shadowfell, and that he was a candidate to become a Shadar-Kai, servants of the enigmatic Raven Queen. Mormesk offered a pact: if Thane could find the components for a binding spell and chain Mormesk’s soul to a smoking pipe, he would guide Thane to the fated place where his mother was killed, promising to unlock the repressed memories guarded by a wraith of Thane’s own creation. Thane accepted, taking possession of the pipe and beginning to experience unsettling dreams of a shadowy doorway, a threshold that apparently required a "Blackstone" to cross safely.
Deep within Wave Echo Cave, the party cornered The Black Spider, who was now revealed to be the very Drow they had glimpsed before: Nezznar. He was not alone; Iarno Albrek stood by his side, ready for a final stand. The ensuing battle was a brutal, hard-fought struggle, testing every skill and bond the party had forged. As the tide turned against Nezznar, a chilling revelation unfolded. He was not merely a rogue Drow; he was conversing, via magical means, with a mysterious, disembodied voice. This voice spoke of an alliance with Avernus and stressed the importance of maintaining the Tempest Ring, hinting that the forge’s power could somehow aid their infernal plans. "The eye is ever-watching," the voice had warned Nezznar. This fragmented conversation provided the party with a terrifying glimpse into a larger, more ancient conspiracy, orchestrated by a shadowy organization they would later identify as Legion.
Despite the shocking revelations, the party’s resolve remained unshaken. They delivered the final, decisive blows, defeating both Nezznar and Iarno. The legendary Wave Echo Cave was liberated, its power no longer a tool for sinister forces. More importantly, Nundro, Gundren’s younger brother, was found alive within the cave, a testament to their unwavering commitment. Cloudheath, now truly free from the immediate threats, celebrated its heroes.
In the months that followed, the group indulged in some well-deserved R&R. The townsfolk of Cloudheath, grateful for their liberation, rallied together to restore Tresendar Manor to its former glory, completing the monumental task in just a month. The magnificent estate was then proudly awarded to the adventuring group, a tangible symbol of their valor and a new base of operations.
This period of downtime allowed for individual pursuits and the deepening of character arcs. Wong Alestone, ever the entrepreneur, opened "The Bubbly’s Taste" brewery right next door to the Stonehill Inn. His unique brew quickly made waves, earning him a reputation as a master craftsman. He even called upon his dwarven cousins, Jericho and Edge of the Alestone clan, to help manage the thriving business while he continued his quest for the perfect brew.
Thane, burdened by the weight of Mormesk’s soul now bound to the smoking pipe, grappled with his fragmented past and the unsettling dreams of the shadowy doorway. He knew he eventually had to visit Stormvalley to confront his memories.
Sam Winchester briefly reunited with his brother, Dean, for a much-needed period of familial bonding, even as he began to delve into the study of alchemy.
For Crystal Runeshire, the liberation of Wave Echo Cave yielded a more personal treasure. While ransacking the cave, she discovered a fragment of an old journal bearing her family’s surname, Runeshire , specifically mentioning Leyon Runeshire, a revered ancestor. The journal, though partially destroyed and incoherent, described Leyon as a masterful swordsman and a devotee of Lathander, who had visited The Lowlands to combat a devil cult. A passage spoke of Leyon’s “blind obsession” to save a friend named Sarkis, hinting at a deeper, more personal motive beyond mere justice. The journal contained a map, though it was an incoherent mess, requiring a trained professional to discern. Crystal immediately thought of her grandmother, Elenor Runeshire, a renowned librarian in the capital City of Gale. This discovery solidified Crystal's next mission: to restore the map, trace Leyon’s travels, and find further evidence of her family’s lineage and their connection to the throne.
Goen Steele also found a new path during this period. He was approached by a mysterious individual who, after tasking him with replacing an item discreetly, revealed herself to be Sister Garele, a Harper scout operating undercover as a priest. Impressed by Goen's thieving skills, Sister Garele officially enlisted him into the Harpers, an organization dedicated to upholding justice and combating tyranny. This marked the beginning of Goen's double life as a Harper agent, blending his personal quest for vengeance with a broader sense of justice.
Thus, Season 1 of their grand adventure concluded. The party, forged in the fires of goblin skirmishes and shadowed by the machinations of the Black Spider, had not only saved Cloudheath but had also uncovered threads of a vast, ancient conspiracy involving Legion. The adventurers decided their next destination would be Runeshire, Crystal’s hometown. They made their preparations, unaware that the echoes of the Tempest Ring and the whispers of the Legion were merely the prologue to an even greater conflict that would soon engulf Regalia.
