Mormesk

Mormesk was a human mage and the last defending wizard against Uruth Ukrypt's raid on the Wave Echo Cave. He was turned into a wraith that haunted the cavern for over half a millennium.

In 651 EG, the mountain orcs of Uruth Ukrypt along with mercenary wizards laid waste to the village of Cloudheath.

After his fall, he was transformed into an evil ghostly apparition, a wraith. His hatred and anger fuelled this change, and Mormesk rose up to lead the undead of the cavern. He stayed in the quarters of the visiting wizards, wishing that the spectator lurking in the Forge of Spells would be dealt with. His undead units had been unable to gain victory over the beholderkin. The wraith was even willing to part with his coins and gems, and even let the party peruse his books, which he much favored. However, he would not give up his wooden and platinum pipe.

Mormesk's Offer to Thane

It seems you gain your power from the Shadowfell. You are a candidate to be a Shadar-Kai. The Shadar-Kai are servants to the queen of the Shadowfell. An ancient elven race that helped bring the Raven Queen to deity status. This isn't necessarily a blessing or a curse. Usually, to be a Shadar-Kai, you must be born one. But, in this case, it seems you were summoned to be one. Why the queen has chosen you, I do not know\.The answer probably lies within your own memories, locked away behind that unreachable door that's being guarded by a wraith of your own creation. It seems whatever happened to you, your mind blocked it from being allowed to experience that pain again. Painful memories have a tendency to muddle the details. I can help you penetrate it, but the only way to open that door is be in the same space of that bad memory. Memories tend to unlock easier when you're near the places that are tied to them.I can help you, but first you must help me. A part of my soul is still tied to this ancient cave. The only other thing that I could be permanently chained to… is that smoking pipe. Find me the components to a binding spell, and I will chain my soul to the pipe. It's the only way I could leave this wretched cave. And in return, take me to that place… and I will unlock that door.
