Government
There is no real government to speak of. The town used to be run by a democratic council, but that was many years ago. Now if the villages needs to make a decision then they come together and vote, but in most cases they defer to the head of the Appleton family. The owner of the town’s gathering hall.
They are under the protection of Erimos but have no say in the government. They pay taxes and by doing so they gain some measure of security
Industry & Trade
The primary industry of the village is fishing. Once the finish is caught most of it is salted and or smoked before being transported to Kentro, the city to the north. The fish trade is strong enough to sustain the village and allows the villagers to live a comfortable, if not simple, life style.
Infrastructure
There is a dilapidated, wooden dock, used by a few of the local fisherman. They also have a stone wharf that was built in the heyday of the village to help facilitate the shipping of goods to and from Kentro. Today it is underutilized, with few boats going to Kentro and a lot of the trade done by wagons.
A major feature of the town is an outdoor amphitheater. It is used for times when the town needs to vote. However, it is mostly associated with the yearly festival in celebration of the local hero, Giles Appleton.
History
Several generations ago the town was embroiled in the War of the Silver Coin. One of their own became a hero in the war, Giles Appleton, and is still celebrated as a local hero. The town itself was devastated by the war, seeing two major battles. Many of their men were killed and their fields were destroyed and their livestock seized.
It took a few decades for the village to bounce back but it did bounce back. The fields were resown, but the livestock trade never recovered. The town turned to the river to and they built up the fishing trade to compensate for their lost livestock industry. This was a big boon to the town and they prospered so much that they were able build an outside amphitheater.
Eventually their village reached their height and they found their town's industry wasn't big enough to support the population. People began to move away from the village to find livelihoods elsewhere. Many of the families left and there ended up being only two major families that remained, the Appletons, the descendants of the hero Giles Appleton and the Grays, the family that owned to town's wharf.
The two families had long been at odds, but with the reduction in the influence of other families, mostly due to people moving away, the situation finally came to a head. No one is sure who did what first, but the final stray was over who had the right to use the wharf.
The Grays, who did own the wharf, wanted to start charging people from other families to use it, the Appleton family did not agree. They thought if there was to be a fee everyone should have to pay their equal share.
It nearly broke out in armed conflict but the region’s Sage was able to get the two families to come to an agreement. The Grays, who were a smaller faction, agreed to sell the wharf and to move out of the town for good. The village was never able to recovered from the mass exodus of people and now there are less than a hundred people living there.
Tourism
Once a year, for a week, the town throws a celebration for their village's hero from the War of the Silver Coin, Giles Appleton. Every year, hundreds of people fill the town and merchants come from all over to sell goods.
