Chet
The Chet are a sapient species on the rimward side of the Shackleton Expanse. They are moderately warp capable and have colonies on two other worlds outside of their solar system

Basic Information
Anatomy
They are arboreal mammals with five limbs, two arms and two legs, between the wrists and ankles are stretched skin that serves as a glide wing. They have multi dexterous hands and feet and therefore do not wear gloves or shoes. Their five limb is a powerful thick tail that they can sit on to support themselves, and also use to hold their body weight on.
They have limited gliding capabilities within Class M gravity and Air pressure. They have a glide ratio of nearly 12:1 for every 12 meters horizontal, they only drop 1 mete vertical. They can adjust their flight and attacking angle nimbly and can hit a moving target in the air, accurate to within 2 cm.
Their metabolism is incredibly fast. They seem to exist almost at 150% humanoid speed. As such, they need a high sucrose diet to fuel their bodies, as much as 5000 cal a day. Their mind and reflexes are just as quick.
Genetics and Reproduction
Chet have two sexes, bimodal into Smaller and less colorful Females and larger more bright Males.
They do have cultural masculine and feminine roles. Feminine roles appear to be in leadership and teaching position.
Gestation is 22 weeks
Growth Rate & Stages
Chet are born fairly helpless, similar to lots of Sapients, and are in almost exclusive care of the mother. Infants can grasp onto a mother's fur with surprising strength.
Within 6 months, the young Chet is free climbing surfaces, but it usually takes a full year before they are ready to glide on their own.
Speech starts at about 8 months with simple words. Full Sentences develop about 18 months. Lack of speech past 2 years is rare and a cause for concern.
Chet Mature after 10 years, but still live with their parents until they are wed. This usually happens at 20 years, but can be later. They are Considered adults at 15.
Ecology and Habitats
The Chet Evolved on a dense arboreal forest region on a world with slightly higher gravity. Thus, it had greater air pressure that allowed for them to glide. It also allowed for larger insects, which they hunt for protein. They also consume a large array of fruit and nectar which they have cultivated over the centuries.
Their cites are build high in the trees with many branches above to aid with gliding from one area to another. Their Ships also makes use of many wall panels and high ceilings. While they are short, their ships are built to allow for, and utilize vertical space. They will climb up the walls to adjust setting or monitor readouts as easily as a human would walk across a room.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Chet have a massive need for calories with their extreme metabolism. They require 5000 calories a day, with nearly 2/3rds of it highly sweet fruit. They are omnivorous and eat prepared insects. They can eat mammalian meat in small quantities, but too much will cause gastrointestinal distress. Modern medicine can inoculate them against this with a Gut Biome treatment.
Behaviour
The Chet are incredibly novel seeking, almost to the detriment of anything else. Their brains actually produce a powerful dopamine burst upon sensing new stimuli, somewhere between eating fine chocolate and an orgasm. It is incredibly strong and almost addicting. The buzz of new stimuli wears off after 30 minutes and returns to baseline. The effect is that Chet have incredibly short attention spans and will keep exploring.
However, this also makes them incredibly innovative, as they will not allow technology or a practice to settle into tradition. The Chet will keep iterating on a piece of technology until it works better than it did before. And then they will go back to tinkering with it in a few hours.
