Unsparked Spies
Civilian Watchers | Diversified Loyalties
Ironically, in a world obsessed with the Spark, it is those without magic who are often granted the deepest access. Unsparked individuals are routinely underestimated by the nobility and magical elite. Lacking visible power, they are seen as non-threatening, loyal by necessity, or simply beneath notice. This blind spot, repeated across generations and cultures, has become a tactical advantage exploited by both governments and noble houses alike.
In courtly halls, administrative offices, arcane libraries, and military outposts, Unsparked servants, scribes, adjutants, and guards move through environments full of secrets. Many are precisely placed to observe and access the secrets of the Nobility or rival organizations. Namwyr , Armonia, and the Yalese Republics actively train Unsparked operatives as observers, infiltrators, and handlers, knowing they can pass through magical wards unnoticed and elicit far less suspicion than a Sparkmage would.
This tradition even has historical roots in the practices of old Emarian courts, where Unsparked were bound magically to serve necromantic lords, unable to betray their masters—yet privy to everything. Some modern Unsparked spy guilds even trace their lineage to these ancient practices, wearing bone-carved tokens as a grim badge of service.
Whether loyal stewards or hidden revolutionaries, The Unsparked have always walked the halls of power unseen. In Sangrithar, what cannot be detected by magic may yet undo empires.
