The SparkTap
A handheld artifact of devastating potential, the SparkTap is a masterwork of Techno-Mentat ingenuity. Roughly a foot in length, the device is forged from common alloys layered with Veracite, a rare mineral found only in the deepest submagmatic seams of Sangrithar and resonating with the very threads of life. The device was designed to bridge the gap between technology and magic -- and succeeded beyond anyones imagination.
The SparkTap functions by creating a resonance lock on the internal Spark of a mage, forcibly severing it from the body and collected by the SparkTap. These magical energies are then redirected into a bound object: a ring, a weapon, a mask, a stone. The mage dies as a result of the transfer and what remains is a Spark-bound Artifact infused with their essence. The object allows a user -- any user -- to mimic the skills and effects of the mage who gave his life.
The SparkTap is not a weapon. The Mentats who helped design it wanted a failsafe to make sure they wouldn't be hunted by those wielding the objects. The device only works if the Sparkmage is a willing participant. Layers of infused magic into each device resist any other usage.
Sparktaps are extremely rare. Only 5 are known to be in existence and the secret to their creation is tightly controlled by The Mentat Council. All blueprints and magical dissertations regarding their creation are stored deep in secret vaults below The Namwyr Forest. The access to these devices is hotly contested and has been the source of no small conflict since their creation.
The final result was clear however: With the creation of the Sparktap, the Unsparked could not access Bloodline Magic. The Technos and Sangrithar have never been the same.
