Kings Gate

The fortified gate in the wall of Lacrieg that leads to the Kings Road.

Purpose / Function

To defend against bandits or enemies coming along the Kings Road

To monitor and regulate the passage of merchant and other convoys in and out of Lacrieg.

To allow the proper taxation and monitoring of what goes in and out of the town.

Architecture

A dark stone fortified gatehouse providing increased defence with layered fortifications. It stands out from the rest of the wall surrounding Lacrieg due to its darker stone and greater fortification.

Defenses

There are two large towers, one on either side of the gate.

The wall at the gate is higher and thicker allowing for a room on top of the pathway with murder holes. The path through the wall is barred on both sides by fortified gates.

There is space in the towers for guards to live providing constant additional security at night.

History

Built following the raid by the bandit king who came up the Kings Road and sacked Lacrieg. In the aftermath it was noticed that the gate was poorly guarded and therefore had been easily breached. This was rapidly changed and the Gate was built.
