Piltover, City of Progress
Demographics
Government
Piltover is run by a council of the richest and most influential mercantile clans in the region. There are eight seats on the council set aside for the clans, as well as a ninth seat reserved for the Dean of the University of Piltover in case of a dispute resulting in a split decision.
Defences
Piltover maintains two distinct armed forces to keep the city safe, the City Guard and the Wardens.
The primary purpose of the City Guard is to defend the city from outside threats, protecting the city walls, gates, and its surrounding area. They are also responsible for keeping watch over prisoners at Stillwater Hold, a prison constructed on an island to the west of Piltover.
The Piltover Wardens act as a constabulary within the city, enforcing laws and ensuring to the well-being of its citizens. While not as numerous as the City Guard, the Wardens get additional funding and generous "contributions" from the mercantile clans to help keep the peace. Many of these donations take the form of unique hextech, such as specialized weaponry and other tools.
Districts
New Piltover
Bluewind Courts. The most influential individuals of Piltover live in the Bluewind Courts, located in the south-eastern corner of the city. Several clans maintain their private workshop compounds in this region, such as the mansion of Clans Arvino and Ferros.Green District (the Greens). This district includes the large park-like area taking up most of southern Piltover. Much of the area was left undeveloped as a green space within the walls of town, however there is still plenty to do here such as visiting Count Mei's Menagerie.
Mid Town. Mid Town sits on the east side of the Bridge of Progress and serves as a central point for most of those that stick to safer, newer parts of the city.
University District. Named after the University of Piltover that owns and operates a portion of this area.
Old City
Alcove District. The eastern parts of the old city. Many see this area as a buffer between the good citizens of Piltover and the riffraff across the canal.Fissures. Canyons widened during the construction of the canal, the Old City continues into its own small city below the city for the poor and disenfranchiseed. Several conveyors were constructed to make access to the lower areas easier.
Northern District. The northern portion of Zaun was formerly where wealthy live before Zaun was devastated during the construction of the canal. Having moved eastward, this area is now home to other economic powers that aren't recognized by the higher clans (aka the rich, but disreputable types). Other parts of the area have begun to be redeveloped by refugees that fled conflict between Noxus and its neighbors.
Southern District. Separated from the Greens by a toll bridge, this area houses a number of the poor that are well off enough to not live in the fissures.
Wharf District. Situated on the Conqueror's Sea side of the city where the original docks were built. This area still services trade from the west and houses a number of warehouses.
