Gordunni
Gordunni was once a mighty nation, led by the battlemage queen Peresha in an age past. She ruled for fifty years, keeping the land united under authority and making it a major player on the Worldwide stage. After Peresha's death, her son ruled for a rather brief twelve years before succumbing to illness suddenly. Rule was shared among his heirs, each claiming a region for themselves, and attempting to follow in the great Queen's footsteps. Over the next ninety-six years, the Empire slowly splintered apart. Regions found less in common, heirs openly disregarded another more. When ware broke out between two, the empire shattered, never to be put back together again.
Once Great, Never Again
Though Peresha's Empire of Great Gordunni was a brief moment in the history of this World, the cultural impact it's left on the region cannot be understated. The concept of a united Gordunni, one without factional strife and warlords always in the background of life, is a romantic ideal for the people of the region. The knowledge that it actually existed at one point in time and lasted a hundred-and-fifty years fills the Gordunnese people with a sense of hope that it could happen again one day, and a grief that it crumbled so long ago. You'll be hard pressed to find a warlord, claimant, powerful mage, or pirate king who doesn't claim to wish to return the Empire to its glory days. All promise their followers that if placed on the throne, they'll unite Gordunni the way Queen Peresha once did: bringing stability, defeating the other warring factions, and reclaiming the inter-regional power Gordunni once held. Those same military leaders will often wear bronze ring armor, invoking the image of the great queen's husband-general.Distant Turmoil
FluffNotable Factions
- Brotherhood of the Five Banners: The largest and (currently) most powerful army in Gordunni, the Brotherhood of the Five Banners is made of five smaller groups that have united in hopes of winning the region together. With a plan to lead via a senate not unlike Nalendi or Free Lusia, they hope that by leaving the idea of a single powerful ruler in the past, they can lead Gordunni into the future.
- Red Regiment:
- The Phalanx: An army with an almost fanatical devotion to its mysterious leader, the Phalanx has made way in the outermost regions near the border of Dorun. Their masked leader claims to be the last remaining heir of Peresha's lineage, and the only wielder of her almost mythical magical prowess. Though this figure is rarely seen even by those devoted to the cause, the Phalanx continues to grow their influence at a rate other factions would consider alarming at best.
- Brimstone Bears: A group of Ursinin mercenaries from Ranesh who defected after their payments never came in, the Blood Bears decided to set up in Gordunni rather than cross the frigid Outer Sea again. They've claimed a region of Gordunni for themselves, running it as a sort of "free state" not subject to outside law.
