Obrin

Long ago a rural farming town near the inner seas, then the sprawling, mighty imperial capital of the Empire of Great Gordunni - Obrin is the largest in the region, but still a shadow of what it once was. Imperial era construction is visible on every corner: aqueducts and bridges, roads and plazas, temples and arenas. What hasn't been torn down or destroyed purposefully is still standing, and still in use. There's a sense of nostalgia here. Though no living soul ever experienced the Empire, the people evoke its name and culture frequently, and talk like it was only a few short decades ago that their home was the capital, not hundreds and hundreds of years. Obrinni still dress in silks and tall pointed hats, the fashion of the Imperial days, and speak with their best approximation of the old Imperial accent.

Points of interest

  • Peresha's Palace: The grand palace of the mage-queen Peresha is still standing behind the thick stone walls that surround the grounds, just to the west of the city on a hill. Obrin's goverment doesn't operate from here anymore, they've moved to a smaller and newer marble structure much closer to the urban core of the city. This has left the palace mostly empty in the time since her dynasty ended, vines growing on the walls and the copper roof turned green with age, but the city's government has attempted to preserve the palace for history's sake. Many a time in the past, an occupying leader has arrived, and claiming to be the heirs to Gordunni, placed their family inside. These forces never last, and when they're defeated by someone else or crumble from within, the palace returns to its empty stillness. The people of Obrin speak of it like the queen's ghost is still living within. There are rumors of lights inside the windows at night, shadowy figures moving about the grounds, and string of disappearances inside that seemingly can't be explained.
