Ranesh

Ranesh is a region that feels old from the moment you first arrive. The trees are gnarled, imposing, and creak with the winds. Mountains show sheer rock faces when they're not blanketed with snow. Bogs and marshes seem to have a nearly endless fog surrounding them and hiding their mysteries. This land, both formidable and beautiful, is the perfect home for those seeking solitude and hard-earned living.

Life here is difficult, but those who seek it find it immensely satisfying. It's frigid, so you need to have ample firewood at the ready. Growing food is hard, so you'd better be prepared to use magic or hunt and forage to feed your family. Homes are build around a central firepit and often have sod roofs to keep the warmth in. Towns are much bigger in other regions, even the ones in neighboring Honamaya, so goods here are harder to come by. Tools are the most important goods a household will own, and there's great pride in still maintaining and using your grandparent's tools.  

Land of Mystery

Ranesh's formidable landscapes make it the perfect place to hide secrets. You'll spy lights in the distance at night, some hidden cabins and camps, others more mysterious. Strange noises coming from deep in the woods or a bog are common, and the folk who live here know what at least some of them are. Unlike other regions where local folktales have become something of a point of pride, the people of Ranesh hold the strangest and scariest stories close to their hearts. Most won't tell outsiders a thing about what creeps around at night.   Ask them about hidden villages in the foothills and they'll tell you to leave those folk alone. Ask about hidden treasures and they'll tell you not to bother, you'll just get lost. Ask what a shape you saw in the woods was and they'll tell you it's better not to know. Ask about witches in the bog and they'll cast blessings and refuse to speak with you again. Learning what truly hides in Ranesh is something many have strived for, but none have accomplished.
