Red Dragons
Red Dragons
Greedy Tyrants
Red dragons are the tyrants of flame and fury, the most feared and arrogant of all chromatic dragons. Wreathed in heat-haze and the stink of sulfur, they see themselves as the pinnacle of draconic perfection and the rightful rulers of any land they can see from the highest peak. To a red dragon, other creatures—dragons included—are either rivals to be destroyed or subjects to be cowed. Their tempers burn as hot as their breath: slights are never forgotten, insults are answered in fire, and even minor trespasses can invite annihilation.
A red dragon’s scales glow from deep crimson to molten, almost-black red, brightening along the wings and frill when it is enraged. Smoke often curls from its nostrils and between its fanged jaws. They favor lairs in high mountains, volcanic calderas, and cliff-riddled badlands where they can look down on the world and strike from above. The regions around their lairs are warped by heat: warm, ash-tainted springs, frequent tremors, and scorched rock are common signs of a red dragon’s domain. Their hoards are legendary for both size and splendor—piles of gold, jewels, magic items, and trophies taken from burned kingdoms. Above all, red dragons embody greed, pride, and devastation, ruling through raw terror and fire.
