Chromatic Dragons
Chromatic Dragons
Archetypal Villains
Chromatic dragons are the archetypal villains of draconic kind—greedy, domineering, and almost always evil. Cloaked in vivid hues of red, blue, green, black, or white, they embody raw elemental fury and ruthless ambition. Each color is tied to a destructive breath weapon and a preferred type of terrain, from volcanic peaks to frozen wastes, festering swamps, storm-swept deserts, and shadowed forests. As true dragons, they grow more powerful with age, gaining devastating breath attacks, supernatural presence, and often spellcasting and lair-based magic.
Most scholars agree, chromatic dragons are servants, creations, or inheritors of the will of Tiamat, the Dragon Queen. They revel in hoards of wealth, slaves, and secrets, measuring their status by the size of what they own and the number of lives they control. Though each color has its own temperament—hot-tempered reds, scheming greens, sadistic blacks, predatory blues, and brutal whites—all share a towering arrogance and a taste for domination. To cross a chromatic dragon is to invite generations of hatred, for they neither forgive nor forget, and see the world itself as something to be claimed, cowed, or burned.
