Independent Confederacy

Faction Description The Independent Confederacy is a resilient coalition formed by small villages and towns across the region, united in their resistance against the oppressive rule of the King of East Rassoran. The heart of the Confederacy lies within the mighty Dwarven Hold, ruled by the esteemed Lord of Quartz. This powerful dwarven leader commands not only the loyalty and respect of his people but also an impressive army of warforged. The warforged, constructed with unmatched craftsmanship and imbued with unwavering dedication, serve as the backbone of the Confederacy's forces, instilling fear in the hearts of the King's troops. While the dwarven hold of Stonewrought represents the main military strength of the Independent Confederacy, their cause enjoys widespread support from numerous cities that, for various reasons, cannot or choose not to openly rebel against the King. These supportive cities provide critical resources, intelligence, and diplomatic assistance to the Confederacy, further bolstering their resistance efforts. Important NPC’s
  • Lord of Quartz
  • Prince Leonal- a slender and fair-skinned young man with jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes. He is known for his sharp wit and intelligence, as well as his love for music and the arts. Despite being accused of treachery against his father, many still believe that he is innocent and that the accusations were part of a larger conspiracy to remove him from the line of succession. While he is still young and inexperienced, he has shown a strong sense of justice and a desire to help the people of his kingdom.

Faction strength and influence
  • Makes heavy use of the former The Kings Rangers , who operate as forward agents and spies.
  • Unified Resistance: The Independent Confederacy has successfully united numerous villages, towns, and supportive cities under a common cause, creating a formidable force against the King's rule. This unity fosters a sense of camaraderie, shared purpose, and efficient coordination among its members.
  • Leadership of the Lord of Quartz: The Lord of Quartz, ruler of the powerful Dwarven Hold, brings not only strategic brilliance but also immense influence and resources to the Confederacy. His leadership inspires loyalty and his warforged army provides a disciplined and formidable fighting force.
  • Guerrilla Tactics: Due to the overwhelming strength of the King's forces, the Confederacy employs guerrilla warfare tactics, utilizing hit-and-run strikes, ambushes, and defensive fortifications. Their knowledge of the local terrain and resourcefulness allows them to inflict damage while minimizing losses.
  • Widespread Support: The Confederacy enjoys support from many cities across the region that are unwilling or unable to openly rebel against the King. These supportive cities provide valuable resources, intelligence, and diplomatic assistance, strengthening the Confederacy's position.

  • Capital city holds 100 Warforged Army, another 60 wareforged guard, and additional 200 consripts can be called up if needed
  • Large cities hold a warforged army of 10, 30 warforged guard, and an additional 500 conscripts can be called up if needed
  • medium cities have a 20 warforged guard, and 30 conscripts that can be called up
  • small villages have usually only a small human guard force of 10-15, and possibly 20 consripts that can be called up.
  Faction weakness/ limitations
  • Overwhelming Forces: The King's army is significantly larger and better equipped than the Confederacy's forces. The sheer numbers and resources of the King's troops can put the Confederacy at a disadvantage in direct confrontations.
  • Limited Open Rebellion: While the Confederacy has widespread support, many cities cannot openly rebel due to fear of reprisal or lacking the necessary means to challenge the King's forces directly. This limits the Confederacy's ability to gather large-scale armies and engage in conventional warfare, as well as puts a strain on supplies that can only be moved via smuggling operations.

  • Lack of Centralized Control: The Independent Confederacy is a coalition of independent villages, towns, and cities, each with its own leadership and decision-making processes. Coordinating actions and maintaining unity among these diverse entities can be challenging and time-consuming.
  • Limited Industrial Capacity: While the Dwarven Hold brings significant industrial capabilities to the Confederacy, the overall industrial capacity of the faction may be limited compared to the resources controlled by the King. This could impact their ability to sustain long-term conflicts and compete in terms of production and logistics.
  Roles/ titles within the faction
  • Lord of Quartz- representative leader of the faction, and lord of Quartzton, a dwarven mining city and the largest unaligned city in East Rassoran.

  • Lesser Lords and Barons- Leaders of towns and villages who have also pledged themselves to the mutual defense, but have smaller holdings and therefore while notionally have a voice, are largely ignored during the council.

Other Notes

Friendly

  • The Brigade enjoys the freedom offered by the independent cities, as well as the money that can usually be depended upon there.
  • The independent cities rely heavily on the Brigade to supplement their own forces, especially when dealing with things outside the city that they can not spare the man power to deal with.

Friendly

  • The Arcane Eye seeks support and influence from the independent cities, mostly in terms of resources and access to archaeological sites.
  • The independent cities depends on the powers of the mages and their knowledge of creatures to help defend them in times of need, as the mages rarely decline a cry for help, and are willing to make certain concessions in exchange for it.

Tolerated

  • Publicly the governments of each city condemns the actions of the Weavers and the crimes the commit. However behind the scenes, they depend of the Weavers connections, networks and supplies to get the materials they need, as well as smuggle their own goods to avoid the kings taxes.
  • The Weavers enjoy the freedom of movement, lack of oversight and widespread corruption on the local level that infests the independent cities. They themselves control a few of the smaller villages through puppet Barons, and they are more than happy to provide service to the more powerful barons at the expense of having a few "Do not Touch" individuals to stay on their good side.

Tolerated

  • The Kings Rangers often act as representatives of the king to local lords, and loath the duty, many baffled by the lords disregarding or dragging their feet to obey the kings commands, becoming irritable and impatient with the many excuses provided and often resort to solving the issues themselves, using the kings authority of course.
  • The Independent Lords detest the Kings Rangers, seeing them as self righteous bullies and the direct arm of the king that is constantly overstepping their bounds. The detest them even more when not only are they giving them order, but doing as they will in enforcing laws, taking taxes, and capturing or killing "criminals" with immunity by the king.
  • No lord with brains would ever act directly against a Kings Ranger, lest they bring the wrath of the order and the king on themselves, but almost any would jump at the chance to frustrate, delay, or even quietly kill a Kings Ranger and prevent further meddling if the deed cant be traced back to them.
