Ruinrauko
Pronunciation: RUIN-raw-ko
Map Index: I5
Location: Inside Hoth N’dorgor in west central Beorlan
Geography: The massive 2.700 foot high volcano is a place of desolation, nightmares, and dread. Ruinrauko stands as a mighty landmark in the eastern central part of the enormous valley of Hoth N'dorgor. This vast depression lies below sea level and is widely known for its malevolently evil reputation. An eternal gloom seems to lie heavy on this seemingly forsaken land as the incessant eruptions of the great volcano fill the air with thick clouds of hot ash, casting a perpetual twilight over the lifeless land.
Ascending the volcano is extremely treacherous, as the surface is covered in loose ash deposits, making every step a potential slide into oblivion.
The Ruinrauko region is very seismically active, with frequent minor earthquakes shaking the land. On occasion, there are larger earthquakes that often trigger massive landslides of ash down Ruinrauko’s precipitous slopes. Unlike its distant neighbor, Raugannon, Ruinrauko primarily emits ash in its eruptions, and while these eruptions are not large, they are nearly ceaseless, casting a perpetual pall over the skies. Bright sunlight is a rarity in the vicinity, as the fine ash particles constantly obscure most of the sun's rays, creating an ominous twilight landscape full of dread.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: None
Minor Population: None
Climate: The region's climate presents grave dangers to most living things. Located near the equator, the tropical weather can overwhelm anything not well adapted to dangerously high scorching temperatures. The heat persists year-round with little change throughout the year. Extremely arid, the rarity of rainfall creates a barren landscape that is nearly devoid of all plant life. Life also faces difficulty by the constant deposition of fresh layers of ash. The ash contains high levels of sulfur making the soil toxic to most forms of life.
Wildlife: The landscape surrounding the volcano is a lifeless, monochromatic wasteland, devoid of vegetation or creatures. Wildlife does not exist in this toxic fell location due to the area's hostile environment, constant accumulation of volcanic ash, and a complete lack of any surface water.
Humanoids: No humanoids live near this volcano.
Monsters: Legends whisper of horrific fire demons living on the upper slopes of the volcano.
History: Ruinrauko's existence is a product of the Great Cataclysm, with the first eruptions beginning at the same time that the cataclysm started. Over the millenia, the volcano has grown steadily to a formidable height of 2,700 feet above the surrounding landscape, with its imposing massive cinder cone and dangerously steep slopes.
Today: This stark desolation demonstates the enduring power and malevolence of Ruinrauko and creates a haunting reminder of the Great Cataclysm's catastrophic impact on the world. Travelers and explorers approach this desolate realm with caution, for its unforgiving geography and ceaseless darkness conceal many dangers, both natural and supernatural, within its cursed ashen shroud.
