Pronunciation: AR-rum
Map Index: E2, E3
Location: Northwest Beorlan
Geography: The Aurum Mountains, tracing along the northwest coast of Beorlan, command a dramatic presence overlooking the grassy western plains of Palanlad. Characterized by rugged terrain and abundant exposed rock, these peaks harbor scraggly vegetation on steep slopes. Shrouded in legend and geological splendor, the Aurum Mountains range from 3,100 to 6,800 feet in elevation as they rise upward from the surrounding plains. Renowned for their rich veins of gold ore, the mountains remain a leading candidate for the site of the fabled lost kingdom of Kharz dwarves, Dhul Kharzon. Lost to the veils of time, the precise location, now hidden in subterranean depths, eludes even the most skilled adventurers to this day.
Primary Population: None
Secondary Population: Ranfaroth, Sareisi
Minor Population: Kishari
Climate: Cool winters and scorching summers define the climate, with winter rains contrasting the long summer droughts.
Wildlife: These mountains boast diverse wildlife thriving amidst the challenging landscape. Mountain goats scale the steep rocky terrain while leopards stalk their prey in on the more accessible lower slopes of these rocky mountains. Eagles and hawks soar overhead searching for small mammals to satisfy their hunger.
Humanoids: Few humanoids call this wilderness area home.
Monsters: The Aurum Mountains, a treacherous wilderness, harbor ancient dangers from a lost time before the Great Cataclysm. Cave giants, cloud giants, and bugbears call these mountains home and will quickly attack outsiders.
History: The Great Cataclysm left little permanent mark on these mountains. Earthquakes caused a few rock slides but overall, the geography did not change much. The biggest story coming out of these mountains is the diappearance of Dhul Kharzon, a legenday Kharg dwarf kingdom. Once containing the richest and most productive precious metal mines in the world, this kingdom somehow disappeared, leaving little trace except for the fine artifacts, armor, and weapons still circulating in the world today.
Today: An air of mystery surrounds these rocky heights as much about them remains unknown. Despite the legends of fabulous wealth in the lost dwarven kingdom, these mountains rarely receive visitors
